Product Description

Album Description

Indigenous is a quartet of Nakota Sioux Indian family members--brothers Mato and Pte, their sister Wanbdi and their cousin Horse--who have built up a very strong fan base in the US. They released their first recording in 1997 when the Indigo Girls' Amy Ray asked them to contribute a track to Honor the Earth benefit CD. Their first album, Things We Do, appeared in 1998. They were introduced to the blues at a very early age and cite artists such as Buddy Guy, Jimi Hendrix, BB King, Led Zeppelin, Pearl Jam and Stone Temple Pilots as musical influences.

CD Description

Major label debut from Native American blues-rock combo. Refusing to pander to stereotypes by exploiting their culturalheritage, here they simply play good old fashioned blues rock with the flavour of Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Robin Trower. With a thick, heavy production by the Davey Brothers of 90s Brit blues band The Hoax, the album also features a cover of Jimmy Reed's 'Shame Shame Shame'.

5.0 out of 5 stars masterpiece, 17 Mar 2006
By Mark Prior "walrusboy67" (Kent) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I've always been a lover of blues based rock in general, from Jimi Hendrix, Led Zepplin, Free and lynrd skynrd through Stevie Ray Vaughn, Black Crowes and Thunder.

Now add a new name to that list, Indigenous!

I first heard this album being played in a small music store and just fell in love with it. This album just oozes cool, down 'n' dirty blues guitar and heavy rock beats. Their musical influences can be heard all over the album. Great music can be ruined by a bad singer but lead singer Mato Nanji has a deep bluesy voice to rival any of the greats.

Stand out tracks are "c'mon Suzie", "what you do to me", "be right there", "shame, shame, shame" and "take some time".

If your a fan of blues or heavy rock then you will love this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, 13 May 2005
A wonderful, butt-shakin', foot-stompin' blues-rock album. Reminiscent of the late great Stevie Ray Vaughan- this is truly as good as all but his very best moments (and even then...), and I don't dish out that kind of praise lightly. I'll certainly be looking out for more from these guys, and you'll be doing yourself a favour if you do the same.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mato does it again with help from the Brits., 20 Aug 2003

(REAL NAME)
This self-titled, official 4th studio release from a great blues/rock band is great. Mato is a masterful blues guitarist and he proves it again. The band members (all family) produce a solid blues groove throughout. You may recognize the first song, C'MON SUZIE, as the last song on one of my favorite bands album, and yours, from the "LIVE FOREVER" live Hoax. Yes, the Davey Bros. produced this fine album and contributed song writing to a few of the tracks. Apparently Mato has been a fan of the Hoax for some time. I am not sure how they got together, but none the less have played and produced a great album. Indigenous has put out a couple short cd's and the previous release to this one was called " Fistfull of Dirt ". Sound familiar? The Bros. were at it with that one as well. The band and the Davey Bros. have really got a winning combination together. All the tracks are good and showcase Mato's guitar prowess, and he also has an interesting voice. Two tracks from this release can also be found on the mini release " Fistfull of Dirt ". I felt a little cheated as these 2 tracks were already once released, but you probably can't get the mini cd as it was only available on their web page. They have since gone to a new label and it is apparently not available. Sorry for the long winded go'round, but I found the Hoax and Davey Bros. connection interesting. Bottom line, buy it, you will not regret it. "Live at Pacheyderm Studios" is also an outstanding cd. Enjoy.
