There's something about the Kinks early work thats really rather good. You've got the perhaps revolutionary You Really Got Me and All Day and All of the Night. But they could do a melodic ballad with the best of them back then. As was traditional in the early 60's, there's a lot of cover versions on this debut album. the record company thought it would lessen the risk if there were a few famous numbers on there. But its the self-penned ones that grip you. It's not for everyone but it might just be for you.

We were taught by a Latin master in the early 60's who drove a Lotus Elite and a Lagonda. He had amazing taste in music for what we thought was an old man.

This was the album with which he introduced us to the Kinks. I have both vinyl and cd versions.

Thank you for introducing me to a new direction in music Eric!

you would think that the album would sound similar to its main track [you really got me], but, apart from 2 bonus tracks [all day and all of the night, and stop your sobbing],and you really got me, the rest of this album is very poor. if you don't own the above mentioned tracks already, then buy it. if you do, then leave it well alone.
