5.0 out of 5 stars Warriors Of The Wind(Nausicaa), 27 Sep 2003
By A Customer
I first watched this movie on my sixth birthday and it is soley responsible for my love of all things anime. Nausicaä was originally a serialized manga (comic) by Hayao Miyazaki in Japan's Animage magazine. It told a tale of Earth after ecological devastation, where insects are huge and man has been demoted to the bottom of the food chain, though some fragments of old technology still remain. The very air is poison in most places, and few but the bravest dare to breathe without filter masks. New empires have emerged, few of which are stable and all of which are threatening to or are under the threat of attack. Life, in short, is hard.

The Valley of Wind is so named because it happens to be one of the rare places that enjoys a climate where the wind usually carries clean air. Nausicaä, the princess of the Valley of Wind, is loved by her people, and known for her desire for an end to the constant battle between people, the giant insects, and the toxic miasma that passes for air in most places. Her father is killed when the Tomekulan army invades the Valley, and through various turns of fate she finds herself embroiled in a series of bitter struggles, affecting thousands of lives in the process. By the end of the movie Zandra is wounded and exhausted, but when she realizes there's one more job she has to do that may cost her life, she doesn't hesitate.

Miyazaki himself oversaw the adaptation to the big screen, so much of Nausicaä's flavor remained intact. Nausicaä was number one on Animage's monthly reader poll of favorite characters for over six years. That, plus the strength of Miyazaki's original vision and the fairly good voice acting make Warriors of the Wind an amazing movie for true anime fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Valley of the Wind, 30 Jul 2005
Watched this as a child back in the 80's long before I knew anything about Anime/Manga or the like, was just a cartoon movie on the video rental shelf. Was called Valley of the Wind back then - wasn't till later found out Miyazaki (the Director) had not been happy with how this early European version had been editted hence this updated version Nausicaa. Is absolutly Magical and just as good as Castle in the Sky, Princess Mononoke and Sprited Away. A great movie for children, 1st time Anime watchers and Long standing Anime fans.
Definately Recommend!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful on the eye, heart and mind, 15 Aug 2006
This is the first time I have watched this film but having loved Miyazaki's other works I had very high standards for it. I am impressed to say that even with stiff competition from his other work this is probably my 2nd favourite and everything in the film is handled perfectly.

The storyline develops so that you really care about the characters and once again Miyazaki repeats his theme of environmental issues and mankinds relationship with nature. It's a tale that entertains but will also make you think and it's a wonderfully rewarding film to watch.

Highly recommended.
