A constant complaint against hip hop albums in professional reviews is that they go on too long. Well, at just under thirty minutes that can't be said of Busdriver's first offering for Big Dada, a label which seems incapable of putting a foot wrong. This album breezes by, leaving you wanting more (a good sign if the old adage is to be believed) and reaching for the play button again.

If you've heard Busdriver before you'll have a rough idea of what to expect from this album. The inspired lyricism is in place, great lyrics and delivery which continuously refreshes and surprises. And the song titles are worthy of the price of the album on their own.
In places it verges on jazz, with a Squarepusherish feel to tracks like Beauty Supply And Demand and She-Hilk Dehorning The Illusionist and nowhere does it sound quite like anything else you've ever heard before, though if you really need something to compare it to, think of Anti-Pop Consortium vs Matthew Shipp's Fight of the Century if APC had managed to reach their former heights of lyrical genius on that offering.

I only give it four stars because it seems somehow wrong to call something under thirty minuites long an album.
