Amazon.co.uk Review

Infamous for having the greatest number of expletives in a number one single, Eamon's debut album I Don't Want You Back doesn't hold any surprises and a glance through the song titles will confirm this. The music is fairly solid throughout; a soulful snare and kick with organ, guitar and bass providing an even backbeat with the exception of the percussion led "Get off My D**k" and resurrected G-funk of "I'd Rather F**k With You". However, Eamon's vocals are undoubtedly centre-stage, either by having a nasal voice that cuts through or for singing about little else than sex. The quality of the songs is consistent and while "F**k It" is a standout, it would be unfair to say any of it is filler as is often the case when one single does so phenomenally well. The brooding "Lo Rida" featuring N.O.R.E. and upbeat "Finally" are just two of the many highlights and as with the rest of the album are fairly tongue-in-cheek (one hopes).

The biggest drawback to I Don't Want You Back is where one could easily forgive the bitter laments of "F**k It", the endless references to "training" his girlfriends, or that women are just "bitches" and "whores" gets extremely tiring. However, among the bitterness, misogyny and nasal singing, we can see what South Park's Eric Cartman might be like if he ever grew up. --David Trueman

CD Description

'I Don't Want You Back' is the debut album from Staten Islander Eamon. Produced by Milk Dee, the album is a mix of slick R&B, hip hop, and Eamon's 'colourful' choice lyrics. Included here is the debut UK single 'F**k It (I Don't Want You Back)' which gained huge airplay throughout the US for its lyrical content.

1.0 out of 5 stars Well i don't want you..., 26 Aug 2004
By H. Dennison "bookworm" (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I bought this after hearing 'I don't want you back' and reading reviews promising he was the 'next Eminem' and i wish i hadn't wasted my money. Plus i'm sick to death of that song now anyway! I generally like Hip Hop and R&B, but this is neither. Some of the songs sound like something the Blazin' Squad would concoct (only obviously filled to the brim with unnecessary expletives) and i was embarrassed to listen to this! This album has probably only been in my CD player twice, and even then i couldn't bear to force myself through each and every song. There's no definitive bass, beat, melody or lyrics in any song and it's not as though the songs have a complex composition which show off his 'rapping' skills...
I have to say that this album is proof that Eammon is surely only a one hit wonder (hopefully like his 'ex-girlfriend' will be too...). Don't put your ears through it, please!

1.0 out of 5 stars The difference between Amazon.com and .co.uk..., 16 Jun 2004
By A Customer
...is that on the .com versio I'm allowed to use expletives to describe products, which I would happily do to describe this moronic pap.

This isn't big or clever. I'm not a fan of Hip-Hop, in fact I find it extremely boring (my tastes lie more in Heavy Metal), but I have found several artists in the genre who (though I dislike the music) are obviously thoughtful, intelligent and talented. Sadly, Eamon does not fit in with this.

The subject material is your typical 50cent-style egotisitical "Guns, dosh'n'bitches" material which is partly what alienated me from the Hip-Hop scene. The case with this CD isn't the moronic subject material, much as I detest it, it's with the music itself.

This stuff is the very definition of repetitive. Eamon has an annoying, whiny voice with which he churns out numerous identical-sounding and dumba** "songs" which have me screaming and attempting to tear my hair out in hatred. Basically this whole record sounds like one single moronic song, with uncomplicated, repetitive beats which vary little from song to song, nasal whinings about how some girl mistreated him (Argh, shut up and stop whining you brainless fool, think of some original concepts!) and how he wants to shag another girl to pieces.

This is a very poor excuse for music that makes me wish that Hip-Hop had never, ever been brought into existence. This is terrible. DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS TRASH ANY MORE!
