Simply Dreadful..., 10 Jun 2005
I purchased this CD expecting Inspiration, as the title suggested, but instead felt extreme horripilation after listening to a couple of songs. That's about all I could take. True to his roots, Mr. Hung is accompanied by cheesy karaoke music, which does not help, but then again, who would spend money on professional studio musicians for an obviously untalented drone? Mr. Hung attempts to cover several classic pop tunes in his first CD, including his American Idol audition piece, "She Bangs." Another esteemed Amazon.com critic from the United States, Mr. Smith T. Aames, explains the reason behind Mr. Hung's phenomenal popularity: "William Hung" is a stage name. This is indeed true, as further research reveals William Hung's actual name is Yuk Hee Song. American Idol and Koch Records felt that Yuk Hee Song would be detrimental for CD sales, so Yuk Hee Song was reborn as "William Hung." It is rumored that American Idol judge Paula Abdul discovered Mr. Hung's true talent and bestowed the moniker after a late night rehearsal. "You're Will Hung!" she was quoted as saying. As an amateur genealogist, I discovered that William Hung has some Eastern European ancestry in his background. The famous missionary to China, Isaiah Singer, fell in love with William Hung's great-great-great grandmother, Yuk Hee Hung, a beautiful Chinese woman with a terrible overbite. Eventually they married, and William's grandmother took on her husband's name to become Yuk Hee Singer. Yuk Hee Singer became a famous chanteuse in the province of Hungsuks, China. If your ears are able to endure the entire album in one sitting, kudos to you. For a sweetened version of Mr. Hung's voice, I recommend "Hung for the Holidays", as there was definitely more doctoring done to his voice, although his singing is still off key. The CD can also be used as a lovely Christmas ornament; make sure to display the shiny side of the CD against your Christmas lights in order to reflect all those cheery colors of the holiday. Earplugs sold separately.
