(REAL NAME)
Monique's album is a joy to listen to. Never a dull moment, there is a rich variety of styles, from raunchy blues to sensitive lyrical works in both French and English. Monique's rendering of two Corsican songs alone, are worth buying the album for. She has a powerful rich yet emotionally sensitive voice, which haunts you long after you have finished listening to the album. Her warmth comes through, as it does in live performance, and she needs to take courage and do more in French and less in English. Also she does not need to try to be so populist, when it is her rarer songs with more subtle melodies, that are far more pleasant to listen to.
One or two songs with not very good tunes and lyrics spoil what would otherwise be a first rate album. I am already looking forward to her next album!
