4.0 out of 5 stars Alamo [2004 Original Soundtrack ], 29 Jul 2004
Hauntingly evocative and very `Celtic` in its nature. Simple compared with Tiomkin`s work for the 1960 Wayne film, but all the more effective for that. For me, there seems to be a deep `sadness` that flows throughout the work - a `sadness` that clearly illustrates Carter Burwell`s sympathy and empathy for the subject. No matter how high Crockett`s brilliant fiddle playing lifts the mood [ track 7 "Listen to the Mockingbird" and track 16 "Deguello de Crockett" ] there remains the deep rumbling inevitability, the determination, the acceptance and the `glory`. All this is conveyed in 26 tracks on one C.D. This must be one of Burwell`s `master` works. Listen to it. If you haven`t seen the film, or even if you don`t know the story [ excellently portayed in the film, by the way ] you will be moved by this music. I just wish that each track was two or three times longer as I find it very soothing [ try saying that about the music from the 60`s film ].
