Having been a smoker for 23 years and having tried various methods to give up - I decided as my sister had just been diagnosed with breast cancer at 43 that I couldn't keep taking something that was slowly killing me. I could see that my sister and family looked at me sadly as a I carried on smoking regardless of her news.A visit to the doctor with another bad cough led him to tell me to try hypnotherapy. I think of myself as a strong person and thought that I wouldn't be a suitable candidate for this - I was too sceptical but he gave me a telephone number of a therapist near me anyway. I thought about it on and off for a couple of weeks and then rang up to be told I could see a therapist one to one and it would cost me £135! Not having that kind of money to 'waste' I said I would think about it. Looking on Amazon I came across this cd.I had seen Paul McKenna on tv and did not have any particular opinion about him one way or the other. For seven quid odd I though 'what the heck', I'll give it a go! The first thing is that you do have to WANT to give up - don't kid yourself that Paul McKenna will take away that decision from you because he can't and won't. What the cd does is give you some useful tips and coping strategies. The 'hypnosis' part of the disc makes you feel really relaxed (sometimes it sent me to sleep!) and I stopped after the first time I played it - there and then. I used the cd twice a day for 3 weeks. I kept a note of each day I hadn't smoked on a calender along with a ready supply of fags 'just in case'. I also kept way from smokers as much as I could and bars for those first few weeks. No-one was more suprised than me how easy it was! I am convinced that it was the no-nonsence, non patronising approach of McKenna that really helped to tip the balance. My family are proud of me for giving up and although I tried one after about 6 weeks, I spat it out as it tasted disgusting. My view is that NRT is a waste of time - this cd along with your own self determination may tip the balance for you too. Good luck!
