Product Description

Manufacturer's Description
The cutting-edge industrial design of the E4c is a breakthrough in sound isolating earphone technology. Ideal for the business traveler and on-the-go audiophile, the High-Definition Driver with Tuned Port Technology delivers brilliant highs and extended bass that enhance your listening experience with your portable MP3, DVD, and CD players as well as all other audio sources.

The E4c's in ear design works like an earplug to block background noise naturally. This enables you to listen comfortably at lower volumes-even in loud environments. And unlike bulky headphones utilizing active noise cancellation technology, no artifacts are introduced into your listening experience. Sound isolating earphones are also much smaller and don't require batteries.

E4c Sound Isolating Earphones feature High-Definition drivers with Tuned Port Technology for incredible audio reproduction. As the ideal companion to any portable or home audio source, the E4c's Tuned Port design improves airflow around the driver to deliver professional-grade sound with extended bass response.

Because every ear is different, E4c Earphones come with a pair of disposable Foam Sleeves, a pair of Triple Flange Sleeves, three pairs (small, medium, large) of Flex Sleeves, and three pairs of Soft Flex Sleeves (small, medium, large) to ensure the ideal personalized fit.

The soft, flexible sleeves in the Fit Kit gently contour to the inside of your ear to create a comfortable, secure fit, so that the earphones don't fall out while you're exercising. The E4c's are also compatible with custom-molded sleeves, made by a hearing specialist, for the ultimate in fit and comfort.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can any poke-in-your-ear headphones be worth this much? Probably., 26 April 2006
By moopig (Bristol, UK) - See all my reviews
I found myself with a few hours to kill in an airport with the prospect of another 11 hour flight ahead of me. While toying with the idea of upgrading the abysmal earphones which came with my PSP I came across Shure's E-series. Not having seen earplug type phones before I was curious, and spent so long studying the boxes of the more expensive models that the shop assistant offered to let me try them out. I declined, reasoning that at those prices there was virtually no chance of me purchasing any. However, a few minutes later another customer walked into the shop and, noticing me looking at the E4's, said that he had a pair and they were the best earphones he'd ever had by a mile. Not sure whether this was informed opinion or just his American over-exuberance I decided to give them a try...

Well, the sound quality *is* very good. There's good bass and clear treble without boominess or tinniness. They are in a different league from the other inner ear phones I have tried. They are also comfortable and, unlike most in-your-ear phones, they willingly remain in my ears.

But the most amazing thing about them, which you will notice immediately if they're fitted properly, is that they almost totally block out background noise. I have some Sennheiser HD-280 Pro headphones at work for when it gets too noisy in the office. Sennheiser claim they have 32dB of isolation - far better than noise cancelling headphones - and the E4's wipe the floor with them when it comes to sound insulation. This was the main thing which convinced me to buy them. In an aeroplane, train, noisy office or on the street there's probably nothing that can beat them at blocking out the background noise. And an added benefit is that with less ambient noise to overcome you can lower the volume and listen comfortably for longer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Sounding but lack a little bass, 19 Dec 2005
I bought these headphones because I commute every day on the underground which can be quite noisy. I was getting worried about the volume levels I had to use to hear the music damaging my ears. I also wanted a pair of headphones that give me great sound quality.

The sound isolation on these is excellent. The noisy commuter train has been attenuated to a low background rumble and I can now listen at low volume and hear just about everything, even the low bass. Pretty impressive! The buds form a really good seal in the ear and it can take some getting used to how little you can hear of the outside world. I have found myself taking much more care of traffic etc. now as I can’t hear anything coming.

When it comes to sound quality there is no doubt that these headphones produce excellent reproduction. After reading a small number of reviews on this site I got the impression that the bass response was really good on these, and it is to a point. Being a newbie to the various types of headphone I didn’t realise that these types of canal headphones will never produce as much bass as over the ear types. I wouldn’t call my self a bass-head but I do like to hear a rich, full sound and I don’t think these headphones can quite deliver that, so I would advise anyone looking to buy to seriously consider this factor. In their defence, however, the bass was definitely present and they seemed to handle the deep lows extremely well, certainly much better than any of the cheap in-the-ear types I’ve tried. The detail in the sound is also excellent. I could definitely hear more detail and separation in my music and it has prompted me to start re-encoding my music collection in lossless compression to hear the full benefit.

The build quality looks good on these with nice sturdy cables. A cable clip would be nice as the cable is a little heavy and pulls as you walk.

The main problem I have with these phones is that they aren’t cheap, but I guess that’s what you have to pay for great quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Even better than the real thing, 1 Jun 2006
By M. M. Black "mmm" (manchester) - See all my reviews

What a stunning sound
- Once you have found the right fit for your ears (for me the sponges were the best) your are in for hours of exciting and dynamic music.
- The earphones are easy to drive and I found myself turning the volume of my panasonic cd walkman down to less than half of max volume.
- Whether you wish to exploit the dynamics of the latest recordings or remastering or get the best out of older cds these are the ear phones that can best do it.
- I found myself searching fo all the Ornette Coleman recordings I could find after I heard the latest remaster of Song X album he made with Pet Metheny with the earphones. Fast, dynamic, fluid and melodic - I really started to understand the ideas behind the music.
- I also tried the earphones using a Cyrus 8x cd player and a Roksan Candy amp. The result were just as good if not better than with the walkman.
