    The Pace Twin is an excellent idea and under normal operating conditions offers fantastic specifications and quality.
    Twin tuners and HDD recording will eventually spell the end for VCR`s.

    However, the screen freezing is very annoying. Each promised software update does not fix the problem. Pace claim that the next auto update (BBC Engineering Team-Transmissions usually do it) "should" cure the problem. I remain sceptical ;
    Pace have discontinued this model to concentrate on Sat boxes. The support for the Twin box I suspect will be non existent. The "cure" in the software is not released as yet. Keep this in mind.

    The Twin has excellent connectors, 2x RGB Scart, Optical out and a Serial Port. Thats ideal for uploading to PC/DVD for backup.
    10 hours high quality recording is good but starting to look limited compared to newer competitor models.

    Great but flawed! I wished I had waited a few extra months and bought the Thomson DHD4000 or wait longer for the acclaimed new Humax which will offer twin tuners and a better all round package. (Currently its a single tuner to be upgraded but DVD picture quality!)

    I hope this helps. If I buy a pup I admit it, not go into self denial. I wouldn`t buy the Pace knowing what I do now, so ignore the retailer "Limited Stock" notices and walk away.

    Superb picture and sound. Very easy to use recording with point-n-click program recording from the program guide.

    You can watch TV on one channel and record another. You can freeze live TV, make coffee and resume later.

    It would be the perfect box apart from two big flaws (both of which PACE are aware of and promise to fix one day).

    1. When recording it will sometimes forget to stop resulting in a full disk and no recording.

    2. On playback it will sometimes freeze. Black frames seems to be a trigger for this.

    Personally, I think the flaws are of a fundamental nature and the unit should not have gone into production until they had been fixed.

    If the flaws were not there it would have received 5/5. It is a bit like a frail old uncle. Loveable, but at times irritating.

    This can and does produce stunning quality recordings and the twin tuner is a unique and valuable feature. But there is the problem of picture freezing from time to time. It can be overcome fairly easily when it occurs by running back a fraction and then pressing the play button, but it really shuldn't be necessary. Pace say that the problem is a software one and that they are working on it. Debugged software will be downloaded via the TV as soon as they have sorted things. But they should have done this sooner. What grade then? difficult: certainly not one star, but equally not five. Give it 4, in the hope that this problem will indeed be sorted soon. The downloads are easy to get and are automatically installed from the TV at stated times. A briliant idea.
