4.0 out of 5 stars Flame (1974) Cinematic vehicle for 70's UK rockers, Slade, 7 Nov 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Flame [VHS] [1975] (VHS Tape)
This 1974 feature starring UK rock group Slade, finds the lads portraying fictitious late 60's group Flame. Although critically aclaimed upon its' release, Flame was only a moderate success during its' UK season. Time however has proven that Flame, (originally titled Slade In Flame) was indeed ahead of its'time, as ironically was Slade themselves, particularly in America. Many were surprised at the realistic, and in Noddy Holder's case, charasmatic performances of the band members - none of whom had had previous acting experience. Also the film is rated highly for it's realistic portrayal of the music business as things were during this time. If not wholly appreciated upon its' release, many music fans and critics alike now accept that Flame is indeed not only a fine film, but stands head and shoulders above many pretenders aspiring to a similar theme. Flame also boasts an impressive supporting cast, including notable performances from a young Tom Conti, Alan Lake, and Johnny Shannon.

5.0 out of 5 stars THEM KINDA MONKEYS CAN'T SWING, 19 Oct 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Flame [VHS] [1975] (VHS Tape)
I first saw this movie as a 15 year old in 1975, when I thought the world revolved around Slade. I hadn't seen the movie since until I purchased it through Amazon, and hasn't it brought some memories! Unfortunately this movie when first released proved to be ahead of it's time, and it's release signalled the end of Slades domination of the British Charts. Noddy and Don Powell shine through in this, with Dave Hill and Jim Lea appearing a wee bit awkward. In Noddy's recent biography 'Whose Crazzee Now' he relates some funny moments about filming and it made me appreciate the film even more. Finally after some 25 years it is available on Video and a must see for any music fan of the era.

5.0 out of 5 stars slade rock like no others, 3 Oct 2000
This review is from: Flame [VHS] [1975] (VHS Tape)
Slade are simply awesome in this underrated rock classic. It's a crying shame that the acting careers of Noddy Holder and Dave Hill were just limited to this one classic movie. It surely touches the hearts of anyone who loves glam rock, who lived through the seventies or who has visited wolverhampton. What more can I say but buy it now!
