Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

If you were in your car during the summer of 2003, heard "Hey Girl" on the radio and felt the urge to turn the volume up, you know that the Delays can turn out a good pop tune. Their long-awaited debut Faded Seaside Glamour confirms their ability. The aforementioned single is here, along with the others--"Long Time Coming" and "Nearer Than Heaven"--and nine other guitar driven pop/rock songs, none of which disappoint. Although it could be said that the Delays are not the most original of pop bands, few would question their song writing or musicianship.

Greg Gilbert's almost falsetto vocal is the driving force; at times it sounds as if it's about to crack, but it never does. This is especially noticeable on "You Wear the Sun", one of the rockier numbers in the set, with a simple but stunning piano riff slipped in for good measure. "Stay Where You Are" stands out as being slightly different to the rest of the tracks on the album. It has a darker feel, with keyboards more prominent than the guitars; still, the melodies remain and it serves as a good contrast to the rest of the album.

"One Night Away" is a stomper of a song, reminiscent of the La's or Crowded House. There are also reminders of the Cocteau Twins, especially on the opening "Wanderlust". Such comparisons are fair, but the Delays are a fresh new band who produce good old-fashioned, sing-along pop music. --Jamie Clark

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing, 6 Feb 2005
This is quite simply the best album I have ever heard from a great British band. If all our bands were this good we would easily have the best music industry in the world. My favorite track from this masterpiece is Long Time Coming but Nearer Than Heaven is also good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delays get underway, 26 Mar 2004
The Southampton based Delays havw finally released their long awaited debut, Faded Seaside Glamour set to propel them into the limelight. Awakening the beast, the atmospheric Wanderlust, is lush ozing with steel drums and harmonic vocals. Re-released, current single, Nearer Than Heaven is the star attraction with a strong chorus that will no doubt be the needed breakthrough. The Delays attract comparisons from mellow JJ72 to the La's, led by feminine sounding vocals (actually a bloke). The exciting start is continued by the refreshing Long Time Coming backed by the eerie guitars, which breezes along held as the entirety of the album is by luscious vocals. Musically the Delays are sublime, creating this charismatic atmospheric sound with a hint of attitude, will to prove they have the commercial ability they duly deserve. A soundtrack to the summer, this is a fantastic debut. Should be a hit!

5.0 out of 5 stars Heavenly Music, 4 Jun 2004

Its been a while since I bought something that made me ring all of my music loving mates and tell them about it. I dont know much about these boys but from now on I will be scouring info on them, tour dates, new albums etc. They are amazing.

Beautifull singing and harmonys, floating guitars and the odd steel drum, tracks 1-4 are without a doubt the best on the album with track 4 - Bedroom Scene being a work of genius, you could take elements of the song and make about 4 songs out of it based on the various hooks within it.

With shades of the La's (vocally) but a few octaves higher and melodies that are totally fresh I have to recomend this to anyone who like anything slightly Indie or Rock related, its a WINNER!
