This is an amazing, feature laden camera. It is aimed towards the intermediate/semi pro photographer, but would be an excellent tool for a keen beginner wanting to learn the basics of digital photography. Take a little time to get to know the camera and its menus and you will be rewarded with beautiful, sharp colourful images. This camera will compliment my DSLR.(I sometimes want a break from carrying the heavy camera, lenses and accessories) Take it from me. To find a place inside my DSLR camera bag, the camera has to be a cut above the rest.I've found it with the Olympus C-8080WZ. Must give a special mention to Amazon too. I got it for a great price and free delivery. Well done Amazon!

This is my fourth compact digital camera and the best of any of the other similarly priced ones. Its outstanding feature is its 8 megapixel capability coupled with its superb lens. I can crop down to around a sixth of the full image and still produce an excellent 10x8 print. I also like the speed with which it switches on, the tilting LCD screen (VERY USEFUL FOR SUBJECTS LOW DOWN), its fine macro abilities and its long battery life. One charge can last me two whole days of shooting hundreds of photos at high resolutions including using the LCD display and flash. For me its only minor drawbacks are its 5 x optical zoom and complex menu system. It looks and feels solid and is a joy to handle. I can recommend it to anyone.

I bought this camera to replace my Olympus E20P which I found a bit heavy for use on holidays.
Briefly, I find the c8080 a delight to use with more than enough options to suit the most dedicated photographer.
Once you get the hang of it the Custom Modes make access to your favourite settings a cinch.
One very slight problem. If you put the camera into Battery Save mode it does switch off after 10 seconds if you don't operate any of the controls. This can be frustrating if you are in Panoramic Mode as the camera resets to the default setting. Simply cancelling Battery Save overcomes this problem. However, under normal circumstances (non-panoramic settings) the Battery Save mode works well with the camera snapping back into action on the touch of a button.
If anything, the camera is overloaded with menu options. I don't need my camera to take movies and I will not be using that option. I also don't need Hue and Saturation controls. I can do all of that in Photoshop.
I suffer some camera shake with my E20P but with the c8080 it fits snugly in the hands and provides me with excellent control.
In the end I couldn't bear to sell the E20p; it's such a well made camera as is the c8080.
Now it's available at under �500 it's a snip...a classic of the future.
