Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

The outstanding µ[mju:] reputation for quality clearly shines through in this model. Besides its 4 million pixels, the camera has a high-precision 3x optical zoom (equivalent to 35 - 105mm on a 35mm camera) which has been specially designed to suit the CCD. This delivers high-quality images that really impress, even when printed in A4 format. And by supporting the PictBridge standard, printing couldn't be easier. When used together with compatible printers, such as the Olympus dye-sublimation printer P-10 which delivers A6 photo-realistic prints with great colour reproduction and high durability, the need for a PC is eliminated.

Let the camera do the work with its advanced automatic modes and scene programs so that you are left with pure digital shooting enjoyment and fantastic photographic results. Besides the programme mode, the µ[mju:] 410 Digital gives you the choice of eight different scene programmes - Portrait, Self-Portrait, Night Scene, Landscape, Landscape with Portrait, Beach and Snow, Cuisine, Indoor - to suit many typical shooting situations. What's more, a movie recording function plus sound has also been integrated so that your images really come to life with movement. The length of footage possible is only limited by the capacity of the xD-Picture Card used.

On the back, the µ[mju:] 410 Digital has a 1.5" 134,000 pixel LCD monitor which is ideal for framing and immediately sharing the results with others. The top-class opto-digital technology is protected in a weather-proof* metal body - so shooting may be carried out under any conditions, no matter what the weather has in store.

A real style fashion statement, the µ[mju:] 410 Digital will take centre stage wherever you bring it. This model comes with a high voltage, environ-mentally friendly rechargeable lithium-ion battery plus quick charger.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Performer, 29 Jul 2004
    By A Customer
This is my first serious digital camera. I have had it for 2 weeks and I am pleased with its performance. Build quality is good and the metal body gives it a solid feel.

Picture quality is very good and it's 3 x optical zoom is versatile. It has a choice of modes to suit different situations like portrait, landscape, night scene etc. But it lacks a sports/action mode. I still haven't been able to capture movement without blurring even in daylight. It may be that I haven’t yet discovered how to do it or expecting too much.

The menus are intuitive and easy to use. I have turned off the startup screen and jingle so I can start shooting straight away after turning it on. The picture is taken almost instantaneously after pressing the shutter release. No annoying lag. Only a slight delay after the shot to save the picture. There are single shot and motor drive modes.

It has spot metering, white balance control and exposure compensation which are not common in compact cameras like these. I use these features a lot. There is a slide show mode too. This is handy for viewing pictures on TV with the supplied video cable.

The rechargeable li-ion battery charges quickly and lasts whole day for me (approx. 100 shots). Software is adequate.

I'll recommend it to anyone. It can't be compared to a SLR but who wants to carry a SLR around when you can achieve so much with this. I got the Olympus leather case too which is good. Get at least 128Mb card.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulously easy to use, 4 May 2004
We recently purchased a MJU410 comera and are delighted with the results. neither of us are computer or camera buffs so we wanted something easy to use. This fits the bill completely with most features being easy to find and use without even reading the manual. The memory cards and battery seem to last for ages which is good as we haven't got a second battery yet. The battery goes from flat to full charge in about 2 hours and the charger is tiny so we've just taken that with us incase we ran out of juice. If you want a point and push digital camera with a good optical zoom them look no further. The ability to take short video clips with sound is just a bonus.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny, 18 May 2004
By R. B. Gillett "raspinelli" (Sheffield UK) - See all my reviews
    (REAL NAME)
I have had my [mju:]410 for about a week and I simply can't find fault with it. A keen 35mm SLR user for many years, this is my first foray into digital photgraphy. The camera feels right; as if it has been designed by a photographer, not an electronics engineer. The build quality, the all metal case, the video with sound, the integral lens protection, the position of the buttons (for a right-handed person) and the fast processor all distinguish this camera from the competition.

Using its highest resolution (2272x1704) it is possible to get results that compare favourably with anything you are likely to get from a high street photo lab. Obviously the 410 cannot produce the same quality results as a professional digital SLR but at less than a tenth of the price it represents great value for money.

It has many very useful features - a variable brightness screen, for using in strong sunshine; a macro and super-macro setting that allows focusing down to around 9cm; a 'motor drive' feature that will take about 2 frames per second and a 'panorama' function which (when used with Olympus cards) allows up to 10 consecutive frames (portrait or landscape) to be stitched together - I've tried it, it's not at all bad and significantly better than I thought it would be.

To be fair I have to admit that I have not used any of the supplied software (CAMEDIA Master 4.2) other than the 'Auto Panorama' feature. I use a card reader to download the images so I've no idea of the quality of the in-built download software either. I expect it is all adequate stuff but I imagine most users will already have their own preferred editing packages; I know I have.

If I had to find fault it would be with the accessories, not the camera: a larger capacity card would be better (but that would be true whatever the size of the one supplied) and a printed version of the Reference Manual would also be helpful. These would obviously put the price up without actually improving the quality of the product, so I can see why they don't do it. The supplied Basic Manual is enough to get you going and they even throw in a remote control so you can photograph yourself reading it.

The more I use this camera the more it grows on me - and you can't say fairer than that!
