5.0 out of 5 stars Clea have done it again!, 11 Mar 2004
Rain slowly bouncing off the ground marks the start of this very natural track and immediately introduces a melancholy feel. The girls then slowly, and in various ways say "I've never been stuck in the middle" - some laughing, some echoing and some just speaking. Then the drums kick in, a very basic beat but one that carries the slow and moody feel. Ascending strings (which never seems to end!) eventually accompany them and have become a sort of trademark for Clea. Thus begins the start of something very special...

"Stuck in the Middle" is exactly that - the girls have fallen for two boys and don't know which one to choose and neither do they want to choose. Never before has a *love* story been sung so beautifully or as effortlessly by people associated with “Reality TV” roots. Not only do the band achieve an ethereal feel to their song but they keep their catchy core at the centre. As you glide along the lush and classical music score - you can’t help but wonder if this song was developed through a personal experience by one of the girls (yes - they DO write their own stuff) as it is so darn believable. “The rain of guilt is pouring down on me, it’s flooding in and I can hardly breathe”. With such lyrics in the bag, the girls have no problem smoothly and delightfully telling us all about “the middle”. The song seems to curve at the end - with the rain being the main sound, after being led in with some piano chords. This time there are absolutely no flaws what so ever in the lyrics or the music score - as near pop perfection as they come (see Madonna’s “Frozen”).

After weighing out their options the girls decide they “can’t get out” of the situation they are in and the claustrophobic-ness of the song depicts this and it is as if the girls are right there beside you telling you their problem. It’s just so hauntingly beautiful! The band combine the classic with the modern and what results is the cream of pop - what happens when people want to actively tell the listener something rather than just belt out any old crap over some “cutting edge” dance track. Some people may accuse Clea of being boring, but they are either six-year old “Girls Aloud” fans or people who do not have an open mind to sophisticated styles of music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Competent Second Single Spells Out Good Things For Clea, 24 Jan 2004
As Girls Aloud continue to storm the charts, and Javine tries to establish herself as the Bristish soulstress, the remaining four girls from ITV's "Popstars:The Rivals" have taken a back seat and have spent time writing & producing a competent and clear album.

Stuck in the Middle is the follow up single to the #21 hit single "Download It". This song boasts a similar feel to that of the previous hit with a very modern sound along with strong moody strings, and powerfull, meaningfull vocals to match the excellent lyrics.

There is a certain catchy hook to this song which will make you wonder why you keep on singing it throughout the day! This cvould be the song that launches Clea into the top 10, and to be fair that would be an underachievement. this is an excellent song from and excellent, talented young group. Go and by this single - you won't be dissapointed.
