The Best Show Ever, 9 Feb 2004
Anybody who bought Bon Jovi's last album, the brilliant "This Left Feels Right", will pretty much know what to expect when buying this DVD. The show consists of the 12 re-worked songs from the album, all of which are brought alive in this live performance and become bona-fide Bon Jovi classics, the real highlights from this bunch coming in the shape of You Give Love A Bad Name, Livin on a Prayer(minus Olivia D'Abo on vocals), Bad Medicine and It's my Life. The set-list also includes two new songs, Last Man Standing and Thiefs of Hearts that were origionally intended to be on the album but as Jon explains were pulled at the last minute. Last Man Standing is without doubt the greatest song ever written! Period. I'm not being overly dramatic here but this song is just the most amazing thing you'll ever hear, musically, vocally and most importantly Lyrically this song will blow you away. Jon wrote this song about the sad state of the music industry at the moment where lip syncing is so acceptable and shock value is all important, it's no longer about the guy who can get up on stage with a guitar and actually sing, as he says "Enter at your own risk Mister This may change the way you think, Theres no dancer, theres no diamonds, no this boy dont lip synch", and "These words were more than music they were pictures from the soul, so keep your psudo punk, Hip-Hop, J,Lo junk Your Digital Downloads" Thief of Hearts while not as good as Last Man Standing is a really cool pop-rock song that gets better and more addictive with each listen. The rest of the set includes a cover of Dr. Hooks classic Sylvias Mother and accoustic performances of "Love For Sale", "Someday I'll be Saturday Night", "Misunderstood" and "Blood on Blood". The bonus feature are really good too, they include a 30 minute behind the scenes feature of the making of the show and out-takes(which are basically just clips of Jon and Richie telling jokes and stories during the show). The Bonus disk is the real place to see the extras which include 6 songs from Bon Jovi's historic concert last summer in Hyde Park infront of 92,000 people, a Texas Hold'em Q&A which consists of the band sitting around playing poker and answering questions on the This Left Feels Right album and DVD, Clip Poker which give you the chance to play poker against the Band, a Photo Gallery and a directors view of the concert. I am a huge Bon Jovi fan and I have seen many, many, many broadcasted shows and I have also had the pleasure of seeing them Live in the flesh and they really are the greatest live band around and while this is a very unusual type of concert for the band to play, which just goes to shows their talent and versatility, I'd have to say this is the finest show I've ever witnessed, Jon has never sounded better and all the band including the extra musicians brought in for this show seem to be having such a blast bringing these songs to life in such an intimate setting. My advise is, you must buy this DVD, the concert is spectacular and with the amount of extras it is totally worth the money. Buy, Buy, Buy!
