Musician Krishna Das visited a temple in the Himalayas where he made this field recording of the resident monks chanting the Kirtan (the names of God). The sense of spiritual openness and freedom is truly felt in every syllable, making this a valuable document of beautiful sacred music, with an authentic sound. Avoiding slick production, this album comes replete with temple echo, as if the listener is actually hearing the chants from the security of a remote mountain monastery. The "great mantra" is sung along with hypnotic bells, drums, chimes, and a harmonium, all coming from a place of deep trance and bliss. This is sure to lull even the most stubborn of egos into a sleep that will make way for ecstasies ofspiritual trance and contemplation.
