Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
Bachelor No. 2 is the product of a woman whose 40th birthday looms months ahead, and it illustrates how a little seasoning has paid off creatively for Aimee Mann. Always an incisive lyricist, the eloquent singer/songwriter further hones her wordplay to a razor-sharp edge. Her subjects are so adroitly sliced and diced that little blood is shed, though they're permanently cut down to size. "Calling It Quits" targets some cad who is "numbering himself among the masterminds 'cause he's hit upon the leverage of valentines". Not that Mann spares herself from a steely assessment: "I know I had it coming / From a Caesar who was only slumming" she admits in "The Fall of the World's Own Optimist". Though this 13-track collection borrows three songs from its immediate predecessor, Mann's soundtrack to Magnolia, its musical ingenuity and consistency (notable considering five different production teams are credited here) make the scattered redundancies irrelevant. Mann's artistic growth has been evident with each new release, and Bachelor marks her biggest leap forward to date. --Steven Stolder

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent follow up to magnolia, 10 Jan 2001
If you can try to imagine a rare depth of feeling in the lyrics that just make sense to life! If you liked Alannis Morrisette try this for a more mellow less angst ridden time. Two highlights are "Deathly" and "How am I different". It wil be difficult not to enjoy this quirky album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Go buy it!!, 7 Nov 2000
By A Customer
At last another fix for this incurable Aimee Mann junky. This album serves to confirm Aimee as the most intelligent, articulate and God Damn singalong-able artist of the current era. If you like Elvis Costello (a sometime colaborator), Natalie Merchant, Jodie Mitchell or any other artist with superb lyrics and music to match, you'll like this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another 5 Star Album from Aimee, 16 Aug 2000
By A Customer
So, at long last another album by Aimee hits the shops. And yet again this happens in spite of the best efforts of the cloth-eared idiots at various record companies. How could Interscope not realise that this is a wonderful work? Drawn from new material and some old stuff that never saw the light of day at the time it was recorded, one might expect that the album would be disjointed. Far from it, the songs work individually and as a whole. My personal favourites are Ghost World, Susan and You Do.

If you are a fan of Aimee's you must check out the albums by Til Tuesday. And what about her husband, Michael Penn's work too?
