Product Description

Manufacturer's Description
In the darkest hour, a true hero's soul shines brightest!

Long ago, the warriors of Light defeated Darkness, but in time, the story became just an old legend. For many years, the world was at peace, but eventually, disaster slowly drew near. Thick, mysterious clouds formed overhead, blocking out the sun, but not releasing a drop of rain. The people were tormented by drought for years. Then, monsters began to appear, and people's hearts filled with despair. King Marcel, the ruler of Klantol, feared for his people's welfare. And so, he announced a grand tournament at the coliseum to find a mighty hero that could protect the country and vanquish the wandering monsters. "...Heroes who have inherited the power of Light, save this world from being engulfed in Darkness!"

5.0 out of 5 stars Nyaaaaarghjhjgjhghjjhgg, 17 Feb 2005
The above is the sound I find myself making after extended Shining Soul II sessions. Admittedly I don't game much these days - my 'career' fell four-square into the center of the Megadrive/SNES wars all those now many years ago, dying shortly after the introduction of the first 32-bit boxes - but Shining Soul II is hard. Tear-your-own-face-off, wish-you'd-never-been-born hard. Each boss will sooner or later begin to feature in dreams, then nightmares, then therapy sessions, then calls to the Samaritans, until all you can do is watch every part of your body waste away but your twitching grey thumbs and bloodshot, bulging eyes, lit by nothing except the feeble, sickly flicker of a GBA screen in the darkness of your now filthy and furniture-wreckage-strewn room.

Unfortunately for you, oh blissfully oblivious purchaser, SS2 combines this with being just scrumdiddlyumptiously excellent enough to make sure you do keep playing long enough to want to hang yourself eventually. What it may lack in storyline as compared to the Zeldas of this world - the game is essentially trecking through a series of dungeons, with the emphasis firmly on hack n' slash rather than puzzle-solving - it more than makes up for in complexity and depth. Whilst playing more like a Zelda game, it is at heart closer to the turn-based combat of Final Fantasy et al; countless skills to be raised to decide the developing and changing individual strengths and weaknesses of your character, weapons to be built and modified and specialised in according to your taste, EXP to be earned, combat decided by chance - or rather your character's stats - as much as skill.

Whilst I certainly don't seem to be in the majority with this opinion, i'd take the Shining series over Zelda. I've certainly got a lot more mileage and fun - if horrifically frustrating - hours of enjoyment out of it. It's the advanced postgrad work to Zelda's A-levels.

Shining Soul 2 is quite a good game. There is a variety of playable characters available, including a ninga, a vampire and a fighter. The plot and game stages are split int different areas on the world map, with a boss waiting for you at the end of each stage.

There are many weapons to buy and find. There are also lots of different items, with lots of different effects and uses. The graphics and sounds are both very good quality, the animation is in a cartoony style. So if you like RPG games or fighting/adventure games or both I recomend this game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shining Soul IS the best multiplayer RPG EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, 12 Jan 2006

I'll be honest, this game has everything that makes Shining Force, Zelda, Final Fantasy and Phantasy Star the games they are. There are limitless types of Weapons, Armor, and Secret Items that can only be found using a couple of Methods. The most Fun being the "Kill them All till they drop something Useful" method, alongside the Smithy, who will convert your expensive materials (Found using aforesaid method) into deadly weapons of War or Immense Armor Items. I have easily spent the best part of 3 months (2160 Hours) playing this game on my stepson's GBA, and as a result I have a 180 Level character on Advanced Mode, with More Heavy Duty Armor and Weaponry than the US military. As a multiplayer game it comes into a league of its own, giving good items and weapons to lower level characters to bolster their weak stats. So enjoyable, miss it and die unfulfilled.
