1.0 out of 5 stars milked for all its worth, 9 Mar 2004
By A Customer
This DVD and the rest of the single disc slayer collection are just another way for 20th Century Fox to milk money out of loyal fans.

Joss Whedon had nothing to do with the episode selections of any of these discs - it was done by some randon suit, who doesnt even watch the program - and it shows in many of the selections, especially where only half of double episodes have been put on the discs.

For this 'Best of Buffy' dvd, the vote that this selection came from had ' Once more with feeling' as number one - but as Fox had released that separately only months earlier they couldnt really include it here - although if they had no one would have been surprised.

The fact that most fans have already got the entire seasons, and the majority of the extras as well, seems beyond the money grabbers attention spans, as they strive to make money while the slayer is still fresh in fans memories.

DO NOT BUY THESE DVD'S - If you want to watch buffy, do it properly and buy the whole season. . you will gain nothing from these pathetic snapshots, as Buffy is all about the story arc and not single 45 minute episodes.
Even watching a great episode like Hush, would mean nothing to a newcomer without a taster of back history, as they wouldnt care about the relationship that had been building between Buffy and Riley.

Again I say, dont buy this - do yourself a favour and get the season boxsets.

Buffy is over - and releasing these single discs is a slap in face, money grabbing, opportunistic, and greedy attempt to milk the buffy cow dry.
dont do it.

4.0 out of 5 stars The best episodes? Yeah, whatever..., 22 Feb 2004
How, i want to know, can anyone expect to be able to compress the wonders of Buffy down into just four episodes? To show the magnificence of the series in that amount of time is just asking for a miracle that cannot possibly happen.

Becoming part one i do not consider one of the best buffy episodes ever. Part two perhaps... but really, what's the deal with part one? The plot, the emotion, shown in this epsiode is a tiny dip in the ocean compared to the feeling shown in part two.

Graduation day part two - yeah, ok maybe. But to understand the significance of it you need to have part one in there too. You have to see everything that happens between Buffy and Faith in the previous episode to possibly understand how Buffy taunts the mayor - these two episodes cannot exisit with out the other, yeah? thats the whole point of 'to be continued...'

The Hush - finally a classic episode! The orginality of filming an episode silently is why this epsiode deserves to be here, and the amount of acting it must have surely required; and the music score was, of course, just fantastic.

The Gift - of course, the monumental epsiode. Really, when it comes down to the basics behind the plot of Buffy it is the turning point for the entire series. It is the cause of everything that happens in the following two seasons, even if it doesn't seem obvious. All of buffys actions can be linked back to this episode - the change in her personality when she came back caused reactions that before would not ever have happened (Buffy and Spike anyone???)

What i really want to know, is why on earth is Chosen not in here? It was the last episode ever of pete's sake, ad evreyone put in a heart stopping performance - i cannot have been the only one who cried my eyes out, surely?

Well, i could rave for hours, but i won't. Its not that these episodes are not good, but come on, really? Finding the best four episodes that suits everyone? It's impossible.

What I want to know is , where's James marsters performance in Crush? Where's Sarah MG's unbelievable performance in The Body? Where's Primevil? Restless? taking us right back to the start, where's Welcome to the Hellmouth?

And especially, where is the probably most famous episode ever -Once More With Feeling? It's scandalous that it is not in here, all the main characters put in fantastic performances in what is probably one of the most original episodes of buffy ever and yet, remarkably, still seemed to fit in with the overall feeling of that season. But thats Joss Whedon's amazing mind for you.

Now here's a thought - why isn't he picking these? After all, he knows the series better than most of us can even imagine...

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Of Buffy...says it all!!!, 24 Jan 2004
I cant say anything about this product apart from praise for it. Chosen from 144 episodes of pure genius, these are considered the best 4, and i have to say I AGREE.
Buffy was and still is a phenonemon(or however you spell it) and Joss Whedon is a genius. The show rocks and so do these eps.

First of all is my fav one, THE GIFT. This was actually the first ep i ever saw. Sitting in my room, sort of understanding the plot, and then shock horror, buffy died. I had only been watching it 30mins and the main character was dead. This ep was shocking, action packed, romantic and a brilliantly end to the first 100 eps of buffy. Glory was amazing as the season 5 big bad and willow rocked when she brought tara back. I cant say how much i love this ep without talking complete nonsense, so i will stop.

My next fav ep is graduation day part 2. When i was watching this i was worried the end would fizzle out with buffy just beating the mayor on her own and angel dying. Boy, was i wrong. With one of the most erotic scenes in buffy history combined with the awesome end sequence, this episode has a major place in buffy history. The amazing end with all the students revealing their weapons and waging a mini war was the best way you could ever of finished off the best ever seaosn of buffy. (plus the confusing moment with faith and buffy, that confused me)

My third fav ep has to be Hush. I can never see why this didnt win an emmy! This is the freakiest, scariest ep of buffy ever, and the way they keep silent for so long is great. The acting is brilliant, especially the bit in the lecture theatre. Hilarious.

The final ep, but by no means the worst, is Becoming Part 1. I personally feel part 2 is slightly better thanks to the hard breaking scene at the end. But the tensity that flows through this episode is fantastic. The cliff hanger end is amazing. When the main characters seems indestructible, this ep proves she isnt. And in 3 years time, it is PROPERLY proved. I love the episode so much.

Lets not forget the other eps of buffy which never made it on here, but deserve honourable mention:
Dopplegangland-Hilarious
Once More With Feeling-Ground Breaking
Grave-Unique and alyson hannigan was amazing
Chosen-Another of my favs, and the series finale
Passion-Shocking
The Body-The saddest ep ever, i have only been able to watch it twice.

Goodbye buffy, you rocked.
