Product Description

Noughties re-make of Tobe Hooper's 1974 classsic horror film, based on the Wisconsin murderer Ed Gein. Whilst on a road-trip through Texas, a group of teenagers pick up a hitchhiker on her way to score some dope in Mexico. The kids decide to go with her but on their way through a small town in Travis County they come across another girl covered in blood and seemingly traumatised by some horrific event. The teenagers soon find themselves inadvertently involved with a family of murderous cannibals and chased by Leatherface, a chainsaw wielding madman.

From Amazon.co.uk

The 2003 version of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre adheres to the pure-and-simple slasher-movie formula: introduce a gaggle of sexy young people, make vague gestures to distinguish them--Jessica Biel wants to get married and doesn't like pot, so she's our moral compass--then start hacking them to pieces one by one. The visual palette includes grimy crucified dolls, fly-specked pig carcasses, body parts floating in murky jars, a tobacco-chewing redneck sheriff and many slender beams of sunlight cutting through dank, dusty interiors. The camera lovingly photographs Biel's tank-topped bosom and sculpted abs as she's running in terror from a bloated, chainsaw-wielding, human-skin-wearing maniac. This remake lacks the macabre comedy of the original; it's all about the nauseating sensation of waiting for something to jump out of the dark. --Bret Fetzer

Yes, the original ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ was a classic – or rather a classic if you enjoyed seeing innocent teens getting dismembered or eaten alive by sadistic inbred mutants. But then, based on the success of the nineteen seventies slasher, a lot of people did enjoy watching that sort of thing. So here comes the obligatory up-to-date Hollywood big budget remake. And, believe it or not, it’s actually quite good.

No, seriously – don’t let Michael ‘Transformers’ Bay’s name on the publicity put you off. He obviously didn’t have that much to do with it and was too busy destroying much loved eighties toy franchises to meddle in the Texas Chainsaw’s remake. There’s none of his slow motion camerawork or explosions with those weirdly-pretty fireworks in it.

Instead, what you have is a reasonable version of the original source material. You have the teens. Yes, they’re hardly the most varied bunch in terms of likable characters, but they’re our heroes and they’re just about watchable enough for you to not really want them to be severed in two alive. But no one really cares about them. It’s the villains who steal the show. Of course you have the hulking chainsaw-wielding psycho known only as ‘Leatherface’ who you certainly wouldn’t want to bump into in a dark alley (or small, out-of-the-way backwater American town), but it’s R. Lee Ermey who steals the show as the truly psychotic one (and he never even picks up a chainsaw!).

Yes, it’s not as ‘raw’ as the original. It does a good job of capturing the general seventies vibe, but comes across as a much slicker production all together. And that’s no bad thing. It’s literally a retelling, taking most of the original’s bits and repackaging them in a slightly different way.

Very rarely I am of the opinion that a remake of a classic film is even better than the original, 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre' is one of those rare exceptions.

The story is different enough (with new scenes and added characters) from the 1974 classic that I believe it will still keep a lot of people guessing as to what's coming next. It's brutal and an emotional thrill from start to finish. This version benefits from a higher budget, the music is perfect and the acting from all the players in this film (even the side characters) is very strong indeed.

If anything, I think that I much prefer this modern 2003 version, and it is not often (if ever) that I say that.

A brilliant remake of a classic horror movie!

First seeing the original by Tobe Hooper and Gunnar Hanson the Texas Chainsaw Massacre terrified me, the intro, eerie music and insanity of it. The fact it had leatherface grab a pretty good looking innocent teenage woman and stuff her on a meathook made me feel weak and helpless besides asking 'What merciless psycho would do that?!' This film started it all but it was not without its 'minor' flaws.

Upon hearing a re-make of the original was in cinemas I was one of the first to get down there and see if it could still hold up against the original. Well it definately did and you could spot the similarities. Adding to that a fantastic mock Police report at the start and finish gave realism so an excellent job of breathing new life into the most hardcore of slasher movies. Limiting the gore was keeping intouch with the original and more about playing on the mind about what was happening. Thankfully it spawned a prequal 'The Beginning' in which the story of leatherface is told with even more brutality and gore.

I will keep this short and sweet,I`ve read the reviews here and to be fair they are quite mixed,However thats probably down to some people just cant stand re-makes. But taking this film on its own merit forgetting the original I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed the film. Its 90minutes of tension,Gore and action. Lets face it ,It wasnt going to win an oscar but I purchased it after renting it to watch again and still love it now - Oh and Jessica Biel looks great in that vest!

I was quite reluctant to see this remake. The original "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" is a classic and its for this reason i eventually decided to see it.

I'm not disappointed that i did either :) gory, scary and darkly funny in parts it a good film and stands on it own as a good horror film!!! i would highly recommend it

Extras include making of's,a feature about Ed Gein, music video,TV spots, trailer and more

And what a movie this is I thought. All the way through you are
thinking what is gonna happen next, the girl hitchhiker at the start is so good then the kids meet a vile sherrif who they thought was gonna help them. The leather face him self was brill the way he put one kid on that meat hook and put salt into his cut off leg great stuff not for the faint hearted though. On the whole a really good film, better than the original.

Some say who I know say its terrible and the orginal is much better but I have to disagree I have seen the orginal and I have to say the orginal is about as scary as having a post office card stuck in the letter box telling me I missed a parcel, I say the orginal and I failed to see what was so scary I did not see any real horror violence (and I am not a huge fan of gore) in fact the the orginal made me feel empty unless I missed something I failed to see any thing about it at all, but by heck this remake real did do it for me this is how it should be done it as so much more atmosphere a lot say the orginal is a classic No this is more like a classic horror movie after this I will be so bold as to say you will never watch the orginal ever again ( I actually gave the orginal to a charity shop and kept this one).
This review is based on the dvd release not blu ray if your intrested if it makes any difference I don't know but there you go.
