5.0 out of 5 stars Another wonderful EP from B&S, 16 Feb 2004
I'm a cuckoo is probably one of the best songs from the latest album Dear Catastrophe Waitress produced by pop genius Trevor Horn; earning mixed reviews from traditional BS fans. Personnaly I loved it as the band is definitely moving a few steps forward in their music.
This EP is quite surprising and well worth buying. There's a video of I'm a Cuckoo with Stuart running around... stars of track and field style. Then two very good songs which haven't made the album: Stop, Look and Listen is a catchy folky number which evolves into some sort of 60's Rock with Xylophone on top, brilliant and unusual which however shows the depth of what BS is aspiring.
Then Travelin' Light which is more typical BS in its rythm structure and orchestration could well have been part of the Boy with the Arab Strap playlist both on the song theme and musical arrangements.
Last but not least is the most unusual remix of I'm a Cuckoo by the Avalanches; Australian Breakbeat geniuses who have produced that wonderful "Since I left you" out of zillion of samples. I have to say that i couldn't imagine the blend between these two artists. The result is weird, something you wouldnt have heard before for sure; yet it sounds like BS remixed by the Avalanches!
If you like Belle and Sebastian anyway you don't need my advice to buy this! Enjoy!
