Amazon.co.uk Review

The game version of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is a clear step above its (still well regarded) forebears. Based on both the book and film of the same name, the game sticks close to the look and feel of the movie wherever it can, while filling in details from the book to ensure a longer playing time. The main difference between this game and the last, apart from the vastly improved graphics, is that you now get to play as Ron and Hermione as well as Harry. What's more, throughout most of the game you can switch between any of the three whenever you like, as the other two follow you around and help out with magic spells should you get into a fight.

Each character has their own special abilities with Harry being a good all-rounder, Hermione being better at spells and Ron having the ability to detect hidden objects. You must decide which skill is most needed at any one time, adding a cool strategic element to the game.

Together with the new graphics, which are far less cartoony than before and look just like the proper actors from the film, this is definitely the best Harry Potter game yet and is good enough to appeal even to those that don't usually like the little wizard--if such people actually exist. --David Jenkins

5.0 out of 5 stars A definate must for kids and adults alike!, 30 May 2004

(REAL NAME)
I bought this game on the day of release and so far i have found it very addictive!

Not only is this version better than the chamber of secrets for xbox but it appears to run faster and at a higher quality than the previous games.

I've also found that being able to switch between characters has made the game alot more enjoyable and interesting. In the first few hours of play i've played as harry, ron and hermione as well as completing a mission with hedgewig!

Controls and inventorys are easier to understand and easy to access giving an easier type of game play. Previous attempts to play on both the ps2 and GBA have resulted in me getting very stressed and not getting very far into the game.

Additional features such as mini games such as dueling allow extra fun as well as good practise at attacking the slytherin team with a bombardment of spells!!!

I would recommend this game for anyone who loves harry potter - for adults and kids alike!

4.0 out of 5 stars Much better than the others!!, 30 May 2004
By C (Teapot land) - See all my reviews
I have just got this game and already I can't stop playing! I have the other two on PC but it is much better on XBox, the graphics, gameplay and storyline are all better. The controls are better but that is probably because it is on XBox not PC. The best feature is the face that you can play as any of the three main characters (Harry, Ron and Hermione) although sometimes you are forced into using one of them, as you wouldn't be able to complete the task with another. Also, you don't have to play quiddich if you don't want to which I hated with the first one. This follows the book more than the film aswell which is much better. Even if you don't have the other games this is really worth buying weather you like Harry Potter or not!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Short n sweet, 2 Jun 2004
Having received this game on the day of release, we finished it the next day!
The game itself is very good and being able to play with all three characters makes a nice change from the other games. However players may find that it gets very irritating when the other two characters continually get in the way or shoot you accidentally when your trying to do something.
The controls and graphics are good but it takes a while to get used to the reverse control as you are moving or looking around and there is no option to change.
We enjoyed the game, what there was of it, although the lack of extra mini games was very dissappointing and the few that there are become very dull very quickly. The game is also just not challenging enough and each task is completed far two easily. We were very dissappointed and shocked to realise that we had come to the end of the game, especially in such a short time.
Die hard Harry Potter fans will buy it anyway but general game players will feel it terrible value for money.
The game leaves you with a dissapointed feeling that they could have done so much more with this title!!!
