Amazon.co.uk Review

With its winning mix of action, strategy and stealth, Hitman Contracts marks a successful third entry in the franchise, and has some neat new tricks up its sleeve. That said, the core of the game is still fundamentally the same as before. You take the role of a genetically modified hitman who from the off finds himself in deep trouble, holed up in a tight spot surrounded by people who want him dead. The reasons why become clear as you play your way through a series of flashbacks, some of which draw heavily from the previous games in the series. Fortunately, the similarities also stretch to the gameplay, which is by turns taut, tense and violent. The game gives you plenty of freedom in choosing how to tackle the various missions you're presented with, and particularly in the early stages it's tremendously good fun working out the best way to achieve an objective.

There are a couple of drawbacks: the game is a little shorter than might be expected, and it is more of an evolution from previous adventures than a independent sequel. But these are minor niggles, especially when you consider that this is the best game to date in the Hitman franchise. It's going to be interesting to see how creators Io Interactive develop the series, but for now they've given us a healthy dose of what's gone before, and made it a little better. --Simon Brew

Product Description

Hitman: Contracts delivers more action-packed and suspense-filled missions, with a greater variety of ways to make the perfect kill and an increased arsenal of firearms and close-combat weapons. A new graphics engine showcases your "work" in brutal detail and brings the new locations to life. An improved control system and more gradual learning curve will ensure that the game is accessible to all aspiring hitmen.

Hitman: Contracts takes you into the mind of Agent 47, the most ruthlessly efficient contract killer in history. The game begins in Paris as Agent 47 finds himself wounded and trapped in what is a dangerous situation, even for him. Hitman: Contracts explores the dark psychology of killing for a living and promises to be the most disturbing episode in the series.

3.0 out of 5 stars Please forgive me if i am wrong but........, 3 May 2004
By Alex Ryder (Blighty) - See all my reviews
I wonder if any of the previous reviewers have played the full version of the game. I have completed the first two games, Which i have to say i enjoyed very much. However i am not at all happy about the missions in hitman 3,Which where in hitman 1. I just finished the first familiar mission in which you have to infiltrate a hotel (sound familiar?HM1). Graphicaly better than the first. And you bump int your old friend heir Fu***.

The next mission again graphically improved but involves assasanating a triad leader in the middle of a park(HM1 Again), And starting a triad war. You then move onto the next mission. you have to assasinate a group of people in a restraunt(dare i say HM1 again).

And to be honest after the restraunt mission started i switched the game of because i have already completed these missions in HM1. So i have to ask the manufactures WHY. New game new graphics Why No new story.

So to sum up great graphics. Lovely gameplay but ruined by what appears to be an attempt to copy the first Hitman. I am all for recycling but not storylines. Boo Hiss.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hitman: Flashbacks, 15 April 2006
By Edible Chef "gazkam" (Royston,Cambridgeshire) - See all my reviews
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
There have been some mixed reviews about this game so I just thought I'd add my own opinion. I really enjoyed playing the previous titles of the series following Agent 47's missions in exotic locations around the globe and this next instalment blends a great, original storyline with smooth, visual effects and game play.

Agent 47 returns to his Paris hotel room after completing a hit. However, in the process he has taken a bullet and as he lies on his bedroom floor he slips in and out consciousness with memories of his previous contracts flashing before his eyes, some from the first Hitman game and some new ones altogether. This is when you get down to playing the game taking out the targets given to you whilst you dream.

If you have played the first game-Hitman: Codename 47, then you'll recognize certain missions such as the Thermal Bath Hotel hit and a few Hong Kong assassinations. The developers have also added the last mission from the first game and sees you either stealthily creeping out of the secret laboratory beneath the mental asylum or blasting your way through any of SWAT team members who stand in your way. However, you'll soon see that level designs have been altered so as to give you more freedom when carrying out successful hits and therefore more replay-ability.

I found the A.I. to be rather realistic too with civilians running to find help when they notice something not quite right. Guards will also become suspicious of your behaviour such as if you enter certain rooms without I.D. cards or uniform. There are also new ways to dispose of your targets life from drowning to smothering them with a pillow over their face.

I hope this review has been helpful and if like me have enjoyed the Hitman series eagerly await the release of the forth title-Hitman: Blood Money which will hopefully allow players to get even further beneath Agent 47's dark motives and his cold, secretive life.

5.0 out of 5 stars SO GOOD THEY MADE IT TWICE!, 23 Jun 2004
By Amazonian Native (Amazon Rainforest) - See all my reviews
Upon playing Hitman Contracts initially I was a little miffed that most of the missions were remakes from Hitman: Codename 47 but this really is only a minor complaint.

The Hitman series for me, is the greatest game series ever made, and quite frankly I can't get enough of it, the old remade missions actually require different tactics from the originals as subtle changes have been made so it's still all good.
The new missions are fantastic, especially Beldingford Manor, what a map and mission that is.

I suggest buying the Prima Official strategy guide to compliment this game, if you're a Hitman fanatic like me you'll want to know every which way a hit can be made, a lot of people have complained the game is too short, although I completed it in what my end stats said was 2 and a half hours, I've actually been playing it every day for over a month, trying and testing every which way a mission can be played, that's the beauty of Hitman games, with the right tactics, I got a final rating of Silent Assassin with only 7 bullets fired in the whole game on hard level, I can't recommend the strategy guide enough, you'll get much more gameplay time out of hitman when you know more ways to complete missions, which then in turn gives you even more ideas to improvise your own, blasting your way through like some of the gamers here seemed to have done is a complete waste of this game, a good hitman takes out only his targets and no one else.

The graphics look nice, slightly better than the last hitman, gameplay is quite well done, although there's a major flaw where sometimes a single headshot doesn't kill a person which is preposterous. The cutscenes will make no sense to anyone who didn't play the first hitman game, as he is having flashbacks from previous missions, the first mission is actually a continuation of where the first game ended, where he killed his own father, and all his clone brothers, now he has to escape the cloning lab and sanatorium.

Hitman 4 is already being worked on and is due out 3rdd quarter 2005, I personally can't wait for more.
