Furious Samurai Action-Adventure, 9 Jun 2004
By A Customer
Way of the Samurai 2 is a major improvement on the first that was alright, but didn't quite cut the mustard. This time, the action takes place in a small town located in the centre of Japan. You once againm take control of the nameless warrior, this time it's a different one because the game's set 20 years before the first one. The second game has many improvements over the first, one thing is the huge increase of characters, and this time they all speak with voices, unlike number one. Another thing is the gangs, they are so much more determined to drive their enemies out of the town that many of the battles can start out in the streets. The thing that I like most is the number of other samurai that are located around the town, sometimes they challenge you to a duel to the death, (it's almost like the many series of Highlander, the winner takes his enemies head and his power). Overall, WOTS 2 is a game that is an improved sequal over it's predessesor.

Sword-wielding fun!, 4 Jul 2005

You are a samurai who arives in a small town. That's it- that's the only part of the game that you HAVE to follow. The rest is completely open-ended. You're completely free to do whatever you want through the entire game, with options of what to say, to whom, and you can attack ANYONE if you want to. Factors like reliablilty create a more real simulation, meaning that if you loose your good reputation with the townspeople, you could end up not being able to use their shops! The game works on a time basis. Eack day is split into time periods of about 5 minutes, one for each part of the day; early morning, morning, midday, evening and late evening. You can meet different people at different times of the day, for example, a lot of gangs tend to hang out at about night-time. You earn monye by doing jobs, which vary depending on who you ask. There're the Magistrates, who are the equivilent of the police, and ask you to do jobs like taking messages and delivering paackages. There're the townspeople who give you jobs like finding missing people, and there're the Aoto gang, who give you lowly jobs such as stealing etc. The more jobs you do, the higher your reputation goes! Fighting is fairly easy. You can draw your sword whenever you want to, but just don't expect citizens to not react! most fights can be escaped by running out of the scene. Finally, after ten days, (or if you get killed it'll be sooner than that) it's the end of the game. Whether you finish it or die it's still classed as completing the game, and there are a good few endings depending on how you've played the game. You can keep swords in the sword safe so they can be taken to the next game. All in all, this is a wonderful game with appropriate music and graphics, and it upholds the ancient Japanese way of life without being over-the-top. Worth buying.

I can't wait for this game, 27 Feb 2004
This game looks amazing, I have the previous one and it rocked, this one is much longer, with more minigames, more characters and much more weapons. It is set about 20-30 years behind the other game at the end of the Edo period, when the Tokugawa shogunate is beginning to collapse and corruption spreading throughout the magistrates. You are a nameless samurai who can join many sides of a gang way between the Yakuza, the corrupt magistrate and many other sides with different agendas. Unlike the previous installment, way of the Samurai 2 features a prospering merchant town, compared to the other game which was a desolate, deserted town, that was heavily influenced by the Akira Kurosawa, movie "Yojimbo". This game has a fresh new story and is a must have for anyone interested in Samurai. For those who dislike Samurai, this is still a great game and excellent for anyone interested in RPGs or Beat 'em ups.
