Hugely diverse, uttrely brilliant..... a hit for sure!!, 16 Mar 2004
Just in case you have neither the time nor the inclanation to read the rest of the review (ok, so it is pretty long...), heres a quick summary: Brilliant - emotive - BUY IT - upbeat - addictive - YOU WON'T REGRET IT - foot-tapping - masterpiece - melodic Lionel has done himself proud for this one, releasing an album with as many different styles and expressions as a bean-bag has beans. NOT one to be missed at all, if this year hadn't only just started I would go as far as to say its the best album this year, so I'll have to make do with saying 'so far...'And for those of you still with me (thanks!), more detail is below: Track 1 - Just for you A refreshingly different song to those that are about at the moment, with subtle differences to the version that was released. Lionel sings the words with true meaning, this song doens't lack in the emotion department!! Track 2 - I still beieve. A positive, "get your lighters out for the chorus" song. Guarenteed to cheer you up! Track 3 - Just to be with you again Its only a matter of time before this song becomes part of the soundtrack to a love film. Not a cheesy-cheesy-cheese-cheese in the slightest, just a soppy and romantic one! Track 4 - She's amazing. After an almost Disney-esque start, this track becomes upbeat and very addictive. Go on, shake a few moves and sing along (you know you want to!!) Possibly a single in the future? Track 5 - Ball and chain An excellent song, one of my favourite on the album. Strangely depressing after the last track... Track 6 - The world is a party ... but followed by this! A little repetitive for my liking, but an upbeat track nevertheless. Track 7 - Time of our life (feat. Lenny Kravitz) A simple start with minimalistic piano chords. Kravitz has an understated part, on background vocals, accoustic + electric guitars, bass, piano adn drums. A huge contribution, but relativly unnoticed, which is a shame. Still a good song though, you know Kravitz is there and his presence takes a great song into the realms of brilliance. Track 8 - outrageous Lionel sounds so much like Eagle-Eye Cherry in this track, its scary! Catchy lyrics to a foot-tapping tune. Track 9 - Road to heaven From quite a lively tune to this slower track, its quite a difference! But a welcome one for sure. Another one in the running for a place in the singles charts? Track 10 - dance for the world The chants and continuing beats at the start of this track make it stand out from the others and emphasise the title. Track 11 - Do ya (feat. Daniel Bedingfield) Quite a plunky beat, and more of a Bedingfield song than a Richie one. The joint effort on vocals pays off to create an unusual mix - in the form of an argument!! Track 12 - In my dreams As if theres a theme a-brewing, the start of this song is like the Beegees! This continues throughout, but is less noticable later on and more focused around the chorus. Track 13 - One world A relaxing end to what has been a fantastic album. But wait, is thre more...? BONUS TRACK - if you belong to me It just keeps getting better and better! Soothing and melodic, one to put on loop I think. And just in case you were still in any doubt, GO OUT AND BUY IT (or better still, buy it from amazon, you're here already so why not?) This is a great album whether you're an old fan or just discovering the delights of Lionel Richie for the first time. So what are you waiting for...?!?!?!
