For Baggies fans and lovers of attacking football, 9 Nov 2006
For Baggies fans of the modern era, this is their high water mark: no Albion side since the 78-9 season has come closer to winning the top prize in English football, nor has any played football of such quality. The "Man U 5-3" game is etched in the minds of fans who followed the Baggies when they were, for a brief time, one of the best clubs in Europe. The video of that Match just after Christmas shows why Albion nearly won the league that season--a showcase for the exciting, aggressive football playe by Robson, Regis, Cunningham, Brown and the rest.
Sadly, Baggies fans still cling to the memory of this game, as we have never seen the like since. But what a memory to cling to! If you love attacking football, and have a fondness for the style(s) of the late 70's, you will enjoy this match. And if you are too young to remember that season, you will discover some forgotten greats here (Cunningham, Cantello, Ally Brown) and see some of the best players of their day in prime form (Regis, Tony Brown, Robson, Copell, McQueen, Greenhoffs).
A game to warm the heart of any soccer fan.

Those were the days., 22 Sep 2006
This is from another time. Everything about it is dated except for the quality of the football which is so silky you just know that the West Brom side from 1978 could survive in today's Premiership, which is more than the side from 2006 could do. The game, played out on a frost hard pitch amid snow flurries produced some of the best goals ever seen. Among the visual and auditory clues that tell you this all but 30 years distant are the lack of grass, the too short shorts, the permed hair styles and the racist chanting from the Manchester United fans who had still to adjust to the presence of black players at the top level of English football. If you're a West Brom fan, or just a lover of the game as it should be played, you'll love it. If you're a Man U fan, you'll still love it, just turn the sound down.
