Great but not flawless., 15 Jun 2004
This is without a doubt the best SX/MX game to date for the PS2. The game play is virtually flawless, as are the graphics and sounds. The on-bike view is pretty good too - something other games in this genre fail at. I would've liked to see a helmet cam view though. The only real disappointment is the replays, which are short highlights and pretty awful with no real thought put into them. Other racing games seem to have decent replays, so it was a surprise that this was overlooked. A lot has been made of the rider physics, especially when you crash with your rider rolling like a doll with the strings cut - this didn't really appeal to me, as I didn't see the point. The game is fairly easy, much easier than previous incarnations. It took me only a couple of attempts to get the rhythm right on the more complex tracks. However, the are some pretty tough motocross circuits which might get your adrenaline and swear meters up as you case your bike on the last jump of the last lap and get mugged by 4 or 5 riders before the line! There are a fair few bikes here, mainly real privateer and factory connection Yamahas, Suzuki's and KTMs, both 2-stroke and 4-stroke, but they don't appear to have any difference from each other, only the 2-stroke and 4-strokes have different sounds and torque - but the latter isn't that noticeable.Graphics-4/5 Gameplay-4/5 Sound-4/5 Physics-4/5 Replays-1/5 Longevity-4/5 This is a worthwhile purchase. I look forward to a perfect game.

Amazing!!, 25 Mar 2004
I have been waitting for this game for months, after playing Freestyle MX I couldnt wait to see how this game played. I am not disappointed. The graphics are great, controls are good, stunts are good, worlds are amazing!! When going freestyle the worlds are huge, you get to compete against different types of vehicles and then get to drive them. So far I have driven the monster truck, no where near as much fun as the bike though. The game play is great, the career mode is challeging and very enjoyable. From freesytle to track the game excels in all areas. For you die hard bike riders who thought that Freestyle mx was good but too extreme, this game really works well. They havent gone for turbos or anything unreallistic like that. You have to apply preload and then release it at the right time. Landing your jumps takes time, after pulling off huge air you have to land your bike well or you will come flying straight off. This is definately the best bike game I own and I cant wait to test the two player option. A big 5 stars from me (even though I have only owned the game for a day). Buy NOW!!!!
