Classic 80s Cartoon Available At Last, 12 May 2004
I remembered, or at least half remembered the theme music and opening titles of this series from my childhood, and being, then and now, much enamoured of fantasy fiction in general and the worlds of Dungeons and Dragons in particular, I was delighted to discover that the series was to be released on DVD. I have not been disappointed. The first Volume contains episodes 1-7 of the first season of the show, as well as a number of bonus features. The episodes are lively, self-contained and most entertaining. It surprised me that the first episode (The Night of No Tomorrow) plunges deep into the chronology of the adventures of Hank, Eric, Presto, Diana, Sheila and Bobby - not to forget Uni the unicorn. There is no real attempt to set the scene, just an expectation that the audience should catch up as quickly as possible. This seems a very sophisticated approach for a series in this period, and one might also note that Diana, the Acrobat of the group, was the first strong black character to appear in the genre - it is even notable that she is a more positive role model than the sometimes feeble, white, Sheila. The additional content of the DVD is informative - character details, development sketches and so on - and is clearly intended to build into a reference work with later volumes of the series. The fan commentaries are interesting, but not compelling viewing: they reveal little that could not be gleaned from the other material. Further, it may well be true that as Sheila vaults onto a horse her pants are visible, but we, the now mature, audience do not need this to be pointed out to us. Much less do we need the suggestion that we should use our DVD contols to view the scene more closely (slowly). This does not detract from the fact that the principal content is excellent. Most importantly twenty years on, Uni is just as cute as ever! I look forward to the release of Volume 2.

About time!, 13 May 2004
I was around 9 or 10 when this show was aired in the UK and i loved it. it was a huge part of my childhood and i made sure i caught every episode. For years i saw many cartoons released onto video and DVD and i always wondered if they would ever produce this. At long last they have. The episodes on this DVD are the early ones, the ones to follow do get better but here we see ourselves being introduced to a group of young kids thrown into a crazy world. They are given funky weapons to aid them (i always thought the cloak would be the most fun), fight against the evil Venger. The extras on the DVD are interesting to say the least. we see two character profiles (i'm guessing more will be on the following volumes). and the commentaries are quite amusing. If you are fond of the show and remember it well then you have to buy this DVD and eventually collect the entire series of this cult show.

Lovely trip down memory lane!, 11 Feb 2005
If you're like me and spend hours going around car boot sales, looking to find a cartoon from your past, then your search is over!I was so chuffed to see that Dungeons and Dragons had been released, and found it very hard keeping it a secret from my husband, Jay, as it was one of his main Christmas presents! If you really want to impress your friends when they come over, and when they start that conversation of "...do you remember watching this and that when we were younger?", just bring out the Dungeons and Dragons DVD, and suggest that you all watch ot right there and then! If you can remember enjoying it when you were younger, then I would highly recommend buying it!
