Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

The Leisure Suit Larry series of graphic adventures have long been the gaming equivalent of the Porky's or American Pie movies, with the same sort of mix of non-politically correct toilet humour and titillation. In bringing back the franchise from the dead though the old style point ‘n' click gameplay has been ditched for something a bit more modern, with you now enjoy direct control over Larry (well, actually his nephew) in a fairly large game world.

Despite these technological changes though the game has exactly the same goal as before: to help Larry the loser get intimate with a lady, or preferably ladies. He does this through a series of increasingly bizarre mini-games, including the recurring conversation game in which your ability to select a series of dialogue choices, by controlling a sperm as it moves from left to right across a window at the bottom of the screen, determines the quality of your chat up lines. Other mini-games involve mixing drinks, drinking drinks and dancing--competence in which will make it increasingly likely that the various women in the game will want to "be" with you.

Since the gameplay is almost as simplistic as the humour this is clearly not going to be a game for everyone but if you fancy something a bit different it certainly makes a change from yet another shoot ‘em-up--especially if you're attracted by the fact that the European version of the game features extra rudeness not seen in the censored American version. -- David Jenkins

Manufacturer's Description

Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude is the coming of age story about Larry Lovage, nephew of Larry Laffer, the series' original lovable loser. Lovage starts as a pathetic loser enrolled at Community College and spending most of his time in his dorm room. He occasionally gets outdoor on campus and attempts to strike out with women. but finds that things always go horribly wrong. After hearing about a reality TV dating show visiting his college campus, he resolves to revitalize his life and win. Over the course of the game, Larry sets out on an epic a search for love (or its equivalent) and finds that things don't always go as planned.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Hugely Enjoyable Game, Despite Minor Let-Downs., 9 Feb 2005
By L. Warner "NecroNinja" (Cardiff, WA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Being 14, I never got the chance to play the older LSL games, but I had heard much about them. When I first found out about this I simply had to get it. I read reviews that said it's not that good but still bought it, I just had to experience the 'Leisure Suit Larry' phenomenon.

Now, it's true that the game is not as good as it SHOULD have been, and it has a few annoying faults.
Firstly, the loading screens; There is a loading screen each time you enter a new area or start a mini game. At first it doesn't matter as the loading screens feature some nice pictures to keep you occupied. But when you get into the game and have more environments to explore it gets annoying as you may have 3 or 4 loading screens to 'endure' until you reach your destination.
Secondly, the size of the game is pitiful. My copy of LSL arrived on a saturday and I had completed it on tuesday after school. And also since all events in the game are mini games it could have done with a few more types of mini game for variety.

These annoyances however, take a backseat and can be tolerated because LSL is just too fun and hilarious to care.
Most of the mini games, although small, are brilliant. Some aren't as good. But all are challenging. Which is a good thing. The best thing about the game must be it's humour. It is not cheap peurile humour, it is genuinely funny. The dialogue, the innuendoes, some of the mini games and the situations are hilarious.

Despite the fact that LSL is short and a third of the game is spent watching loading screens, it is one of the most fun and entertaining games I've played in a long time. Genuinely hilarious and fun, it is worth the money I paid for it.

Although, I must warn you. This game surprised me, never has a game deserved it's 18 certificate like this one does. It is by far the most offensively rude game I've ever seen. I can't even believe it got past the censors. It strictly shouldn't be played by anyone under 18 (Not even me)! But if you don't mind the disgusting although hilarious vulgarity, then this is definitely a worthy addition to your game collection!

3.0 out of 5 stars Too Slow to play, 8 Nov 2004
By A Customer
Having played the original Larry game on my mates dad pc back in the late 80's when I was about 13. I bought this with a certain degree of curiosity to see what it could be like.

Overall the graphics are great and it is certainly very funny, however it is let down MASSIVELY by the amount of time you have to spend loading levels. This is OK for the first hour or so, but as the gameplay increases, you find yourself having to walk from one area to another with a very annoying wait between each area. Not really a falut of the developers I suppose, more to do with limitations of the PS2. Another annoying thing is the fact that the mini games are so repetitive and boring. OK to start they can be quite good fun, but after a couple of hours they become tedious, and you end up wimping out of each one.

This could have been great, but it becomes very annoying to play after a short while.

4.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT GAME, 11 Sep 2005
By A Customer
I was told this game was rubbish and don't buy it but when i saw it on amazon for just £9.00 i thought i had to have it. Now my boyfriend and i play it everyday and think it's great. You get to pretent your larry and your aim is to try and get the girls. The only bad things about this game is that when your waiting for the next part of the game to load you wait ages, also Larry just doesn't stop farting throughout the game!!!! Not one to play withh the girlfreind! she could get jealous!
