For heaven's sake, why has no one in the UK reviewed this famous performance?

This is the fabulous Callas 'Puritani' from the 1950s. It is in no better than decent 1950s mono, which means that the audio purists will have an attack of the vapours. It is in no way consistent with current academic dogma; indeed, every member of the cast, orchestra and chorus would quite properly reject any nonsense about original instruments and historic singing styles with all the contempt that it so fully deserves. This means that the psueds will turn pale and throw up their hands in fluttering horror.

This performance has nothing to recommend it to a modern audience save the incontrovertible fact that it is the greatest 'Puritani' ever recorded and shows every sign that it will continue to be so into the indefinite future.

It's great. It's cheap. Grab it!
