Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Another day, another third-person shoot-em-up--but with its quirky storyline and neat combat features, kill.switch manages to raise its head above the gaming parapet without getting its helmet shot off. Unusually for a run-and-gun title, the plotline is clouded in mystery: it's made apparent the player isn't (in fact) the on-screen character but is controlling him over a neural link; there's an intriguing storyline relating to how the situation came to be and what the nature of the link and the relationship with the soldier really is.

Added to this rather novel aspect is the introduction of some entertaining combat moves, including the ability to blindfire--this involves hiding behind obstacles and poking a machine gun over the top in the desperate hope that something will end up full of lead. This combination of ingenious plotline and novel combat methods gives kill.switch that little extra boost in the entertainment stakes and make it stand out from its peers.

Graphically, the game looks very nice; the environments are nicely detailed and the character models do a good job of representing the subject matter. One thing that does niggle, however, is the camera: the angles used to represent the third-person view can occasionally get stuck in the scenery or trapped inside the player's shoulder, disturbing the feeling of immersion. It's certainly irritating, but by no means a reason not to play through to the game's conclusion.

There's a lot going for kill.switch: it's entertaining, has some novel twists and turns in the storyline and gives a lot of bang for the proverbial buck. It's definitely worth a look for the casual gamer and for those looking for something which attempts to break the mould of typical third-person shooters. --Chris Russell

Manufacturer's Description

kill.switch promises an intense combat experience by combining highly explosive firepower with realistic cover tactics. The game's lethal combination of Blindfire gunplay allows frontal assaults against enemies without exposing the player to counter fire. Powered by the game's Offensive Cover System, kill.switch sets a new standard in the action shooter genre by demanding the use of realistic cover tactics while requiring players to take advantage of their surroundings. Throughout the course of action, players must skilfully manage their environments while quickly adjusting on the fly through six action-packed combat missions spanning 18 different levels. Featuring diverse environments, players will take cover, take aim and take over as their enemies approach with team-based tactics and attacks. A cinematic storyline takes players to hotspots around the world, making kill.switch a must-have title for action gamers.

4.0 out of 5 stars take cover.take aim.take over.play this game asap, 23 Feb 2004
This game is cool mainly because it adds some originality to a genre that has been done quite a lot these days. It brings something new to the action genre, unlike so many other action games. It lets you blindfire. Yup peeking out is a risky thing, especially with clever enemies, hiding behind rocks. Wot do you do? Pop your gun out only and shoot without even looking. The catch? Your accuracy decreases a lot. To increase accuracy, every now and then it's good to pop out, shoot then duck back into the safety of your cover, which brings me to point two, this game relies heavy on the fact that cover is your only ally and it works beautifully. Mainly coz your player is flexible. He's able to pop his gun out from every position & every direction. He can flatten his back to the wall while standing or crouching. It's these little details that make this game a joy to play, even though it maybe quite short. And also this is NOTHING like splinter cell, splinter cell relies on stealth, this is just a no-brainer action game which relies on nothing but shooting.

3.0 out of 5 stars Short Game, 17 Feb 2005

Kill.Switch is a really short game and easy to complete. there isn't much of a choice in weapons and the missons are abit dull, But it is fun while playing!

If you like shooting non-stop this is your game.

4.0 out of 5 stars Traditional shoot em up, 21 May 2004

Remember those games you'd endlessly push 10 pence pieces into at a seaside resort - well this could have been one of those titles.
Nothing new here but it is good honnest blasting, ducking and diving for cover fun only annoyingly interupted by instant death if an enemy knocks you with a rifle butt - which seems odd because you can take a fair ammount of bullets without dying!
You'll probably get bored of it before you reach the end but then how many games do people actually finish before you buy another anyway?
All in all, its a jolly good fight while it lasts.

Quite a good game, with smooth gameplay and challenging levels.

Our hero uses cover/stealth throughout, but the bullets fly thick and fast. Read more
