    5.0 out of 5 stars Very useful, fast and cheap, 6 Aug 2004
    As my laptop does not have a floppy drive I needed an easy to use removable storage device. I looked at smaller size flash drives but wanted to be able to transfer large files, or large numbers of files between work and home without having to continually burn cd's or have to carry multiple pen drives.
    Copying files is very quick and painless, being plug and play on windows 2000/xp you just plug it in and start moving files to the new removeable drive that appears. With this pen drive I found copying an 800mb divx movie via USB2 to or from a pc took about 2mins. Transfering the file on a computer that doesn't have USB2 took over 12minutes.
    The extension cord is very useful if you only have USB ports at the back of your computer - or if you have something else plugged into an adjoining port. I found it impossible to plug the drive directly into my laptop without unplugging something else.
    Finally I would definately recommend going for a 1Gb drive rather than 128mb or 256mb - the extra space comes in so handy (especially being able to copy entire divx movies which are often larger than can fit on a single cd) and more than justifies the price.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent device at a fantastic price, 28 Feb 2005

    This is a fantastic little device and great value. I have had no problems with this device (although I do use XP on all machines). The speed when using USB 2 is excellent; it works effectively with USB 1.1 but the performance is (obviously) greatly reduced.

    The device is a little chunky and can be difficult to fit into a USB port when other ports are in use. However, they have provided a very useful USB extension cable that solves this problem (and if like me, the USB ports are on the back of the machine removes a great deal of crawling around).

    Take some care deciding which version you purchase. 128MB, 256MB, 512MB and 1GB versions are available (although they all provide fractionally less available storage than advertised). A short time ago larger versions carried a very hefty premium, today the ByteStor devices offer an almost linear price model and in fact the 512MB offers the best amount of storage per pound. Consider how you are going to use the device and then ensure that you have selected a large enough one.

    If you are using XP then I can recommend this (for the price)

    4.0 out of 5 stars Big is beautiful, 13 Sep 2004
    By A Customer
    I needed a new removeable storage devise after I noticed that my old pen drive's capacity was becoming too small to carry video clips and photo's between my siblings PC's.

    After buying a ByteStor 128MB flash pen drive for a friend last Christmas (she says it's one of her favourite computing accessories) I opted for this particular manufacturer and their 1GB model.

    The good points are;

    1) 1GB (well not quite due to the Microsoft OS),
    2) USB 2.0 making the saving and loading of files rather quick,
    3) Software security (If you use this feature you MUST remember your password or the drive will automatically format itself.)

    The bad points are;

    1) It has a rather bulky form (a bit like me) so connecting it to a recess USB sockets may prove a bit of a problem on some computers but don't worry as an extension USB cable is provided.
    2) Since this is really a two in one drive, once plugged in, your PC will asign a floppy disk drive letter A: or B: depending on your PC's configuration. This in itself is not a bad idea really but you do have to remember to unplug it if you have to reboot your PC.

    All in all it is a good devise and one I would recommend to anyone.
