5.0 out of 5 stars Magick!, 22 Nov 2003
By Gabrielle de Yorvick - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I saw this film first in the cinema and was doubtful that a video would do it justice - I was wrong - the video is every bit as good. Shah Ruhk Khan gives an amazing portrayal of Devdas - who is basically a "loser" because he would not fight for the woman that he loved until it was too late, and then lost himself in drink. It would be easy for this character to be seen as pathetic - but Khans performance avoids this and makes you feel all the emotions and confusions as they occur to Devdas himself - brilliantly. The music is fantastic, and Madhuri Dixits acting/dancing is incredible. She far outshines Aishwarya Rai who, I am sorry to say, is a rather wooden "Paro".
Favourite bit? Devdas attending Paros shaadi, soundtrack playing "Hamesha tumko chaha" (I have loved you always) - definately a three hanky scene!!
