5.0 out of 5 stars a breath of fresh air, 11 April 2006
This is one of weissenberg's more exciting concerto recordings.None of that slightly tepid quality which detracts from his collaborations with Karajan or Muti.
Listen to the relentless tread of his playing from 1:16 (ist movement) into the orchestral tutti...there's a clear groundplan but a spine tingling sense of occassion as well.Maag gets glowing results from the Orchestra sinfonica della RAI di Torino and the slow movement's cello solo has rarely been so heart wrenching. The finale is delightfully impish with Weissenberg's sparking fingerwork (00:33)and Maag's equally fleet footed accompaniment.Tremendous!
