A Fourth Roar that is Bloody, 23 Feb 2005
By A Customer
This is the 4th in the series on the playstation (Or technically 5th if you count the Bloody Roar Extreme port to the Gamecube and X-Box)And what is new? ~ 3 new characters (Reiji the Crow, Nagi the Spurious and Ryoho w/ Mana the Nine Tails) bringing the total to 17. ~ Darker setting, now includes levels like: A prison, a dragon shrine, a dark back alley and an underpass) ~ Finally has mass quantities of blood that was missing from previous titles ~ More playable modes - includes Arcade, Vs Mode, Sparring, Survival etc... ~ All New Career Mode used to specifically update characters with new or snatched moves from other characters, and has other great effects that can make an even more devestating battle turn in your favour. ~ 3rd Beast Drives ~ Real time cut scenes/endings included in Arcade mode - improved over previously using still frames and captions in previous Bloody Roar titles. ~ 3rd Costumes for some characters ~ All new beast bar that can now be used to exchange energy for a longer battle - now even when the bar is only a tiny bit filled, you can morph into beast form ~ Some stages include hidden areas Besides all these improvements, there is still a lot that could have been worked on. There is some slow down on some stages and few bugs that should have been ironed out before shipping out, but they can be easily overlooked as the game does have a good frame rate with good speed and handling. The controls have stayed the same since the first game, besides very unnoticible upgrades that have gone on with time. Though, for people who are well used to the controls, who needs change? The voice actors are rather dodgy to say the least and the music unvaried at times, but it passes for average at best. There are some good points and bad, but overall I'd say its a pretty good game. May not be on par with the likes of Tekken and Soul Calibur, but heck, it will keep you occupied with plenty of beat 'em up action! Try it for yourself and see!
