First heard the name 'Viktor Duplaix' whilst listening to Aaron Ross's soulfull house show on BBC 1 Xtra. Duplaix provided the vocals for a latin flavoured Masters at Work joint titled 'Welcome to the real world', a track I've yet to get my hands on. At first I thought that the track was a Sting remix as Viktor Duplaix's singing voice has the same gentle husky quality. However, there is something a little more soulfull and ambient about Duplaix's style that is particularily effective. On the sublime track 'City Spirits', his voices glides effortlessly across a soundscape of beats and mellow vibes. The excellent 'Jazzanova' provide most of the music which can only be described as minimal soulfull house.

There is no reason why this guy could'nt become a real star and it would appear that this album is really a sampler of better things to come. Viktor Duplaix has already hooked up with some of the finest house and dance music producers in the business and it wouldn't suprise me if his unique style crosses over to a mainstream audience. Buy this album now, so that in six months time, when everyone is raving about him, you can kick back and nonchalantly state you had the album ages ago.
