First, let me straighten out one thing. Jackie Chan is NOT the star of 'My Lucky Stars'; that honour goes to Sammo Hung (who also directed). Jackie is actually in more of a supporting role (he did this role as a favour to Sammo in return for what Sammo did for him in the past), yet still gets his chances to shine.
The story is set in Japan. Muscles (Chan) and Ricky (played by the wonderful Yuen Biao) are two cops who are trying to capture a couple of runaways (played by Lam Ching-Ying and Lau Kar-Wing). However, in the ensuing sequence, Ricky gets knocked out and captured and Muscles fails to capture the two crooks.
Because he knows that one of the crooks is also a member of the police force, Muscles cannot continue to pursue the case personally, as the crooks would now know who was involved in the investigation. Muscles then enlists the help of his old orphanage buddies, led by Kidstuff (Sammo Hung), who has been in prison for an earlier crime. The other orphanage buddies are played by various Hong Kong character actors and comedians such as Eric Tsang (Jet Li's 'Hitman'), Richard Ng ('Miracles', 'Wheels On Meals') and Charlie Chin.
Anyway, Kidstuff and co are made out to be crooks to force them to concentrate on the mission at hand. The problems start when a policewoman named Poison Ivy (Sibelle Hu, 'Tai Chi Boxer') comes to assist, for they try and get some fun at her expense in some very broad comic sequences.
However, Poison Ivy takes Kidstuff away alone to find Muscles. They find him, but, as Muscles was responsible for imprisoning Kidstuff, will he cooperate?

This is definitely the best of the lucky stars series, Sammo Hung shines alongside the rest of the gang and Jackie Chan is great in the end fight scene. Everyone gives a faultless performance although some of the comedy scenes get a little tiresome, except of course the ninja in the bedroom scene which is hilarious! Definitely worth seeing!

When a detective is kidnapped by some fugitives (one of which is a renegade cop), aided by Japanese gangsters, Muscles ~ the detective's partner, is forced to go outside of the department and enlist the help of an old childhood friend and his group of idiot cronies.
Obviously they accept (otherwise the film wouldn't be very long!), and they go undercover as bank robbers, on a top secret mission, in order to wheedle their way into the criminal underworld and thus locate the whereabouts of the real gangsters and the imprisoned cop. The idea being that from there of course, they are to alert Muscles, so that he can capture the baddies and rescue his partner. Unfortunately though, as I already mentioned, the heroes aren't the coolest or most heroic chaps, and so 'hilarious' chaos ensues...

The first 'Lucky Stars' film (providing you don't count the earlier/similar Winners & Sinners), which was a huge success at the box office on it's release.
As is usual for these, there is a lot of rather silly humour, which dependent if you like that sort of thing, will either make or break the film for you. And although the fight action mostly plays second fiddle to the humour, because this was a period where the crew were at the top of their game, it still means that what fight action there is, is pretty much unmissable to any fans of Hong Kong action cinema during this time.
So as an example we get Lam Ching Ying, Dick Wei, Lau Kar Wing and Michiko Nishiwaki, facing off against Jackie Chan, Yeun Biao, Samo Hung and Sibelle Hu in the final fight, which as you can imagine is an absolute belter!! With Michiko Nishiwaki probably stealing it from under every bodies noses during her fight scenes..

as much as people say this is Jackie Chan's finest work, i totally disagree. this isn't a Jackie Chan movie he only plays a supporting role not cameo or co-star by the way to those who don't know the difference. there is no such thing as a extended cameo some cameo's are longer than others that's about it and this wasn't a cameo. nor was it his movie. because of how famous Jackie Chan is today they overrate him on everything no matter how much a good STUNTMAN ,ACTOR AND MARTIAL ARTIST HE IS. by overrating him i mean for example just putting him on the box and displaying his name all over the box when it isn't even his movie and Sammo hung who's movie it is isn't written on the box in big letters like Jackie Chan, i don't even think it is written or engraved on the box at all. also if you look at Jackie Chan filmography you will find it doesn't say supporting role. that's what i mean when i say over ration and political incorrect.

It has to be said, whene there isnt a fight going on this is a lame film, all the comedy is lost (apart from the bedroom ninja bit which is very funny) and the plot isnt good, but the fights! Especaily the end battle are amazing full of mad stunts, crazy ninjas and four chinese men who dont know kung fu doing the snake, crane and tiger forms. A good fighting film but a bad comedy!
