Product Description

Manufacturer's Description
Dynasty Tactics 2 is a turn-based tactical simulation game where the player's task is to annihilate enemy armies by forming chain reactions of high-intensity tactical manoeuvres. Assuming the role of a general, the player seeks to unite the warring states of China's legendary Three Kingdoms. The Dynasty Tactics series chronicles the turmoil that took place after the fall of China's Han Empire. The civil war that followed was a dagger into the heart of China. Bandits, warlords and legions of mercenaries ravaged the once noble land and ripped the empire into three warring states; on those battlefields the heroes of the Three Kingdoms were born.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stimulate the mind !, 2 Dec 2003
Given the complete lack of true turn based strategy games it was with some excitement and relief that I saw this title confirmed earlier in the year. You will see a mixture of reviews in the PS2 magazines that vary from "brilliant game play" to "over complicated". Lets set the record straight - this is a real strategy game, not jazzed up as a FPS lookalike (of which you have a zillion other wannabees to pick from).

As with Kessen / Dynasty Warriors & the original Dynasty Tactics this game is based around the Romance of the Three Kingdoms saga, and stays true to this story line whilst adding some additional twists to the game play and increasing the number of sub plots available to you.

This is an incredibly immersive game IF you give the time to understand how your generals grow in experience and the different "tactics" that can be learnt, as well as family relationships and the impact these can have in battle. Again this is a new development as you have to learn about each tactic and skill group so that the generals and officers can go to "barracks" to be schooled in new tactics. BEWARE (remember how in the previous incarnation any tactis learnt or acquired were always successful) - well in this version it depends on how your officers skills develop as to whether he will be successful !. Other innovations include family relationships with associated benefits in the heat of battle and the "Spy" function has been expanded to include assassination attempts, subversion and others. One change that really makes you sit back to consider strategies is the introduction of individual "chain" attack combinations. This can turn a near guaranteed victory into utter chaos in the space of a few moves. You can also play as a new general - LU BU.... the list of changes go on however the game play always revolves around your success on the battle field, which is not limited to your ability to press 10 buttons in as quick a time as possible.

Genuinely I would recommend this game as it will test the brain of even the most experienced strategy gamer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Game for all 3 Kingdom fans., 27 April 2004
By Mr. C. J. Preston "chpreston3" (United Kingdom of Great Britain & Northern Ireland) - See all my reviews

This game was a real enjoyment to play. I have not played the original Dynasty Tactics but heard it was like Kessen.
The first 15 minutes wasa brief introduction on how to play the game. It was a little confusing atfirst but after playing it for a while you get used to it.
This game is huge. If you have the time and patience I would recommend it.It has many different endings to the four story lines Liu Bei, Sun Ce, CaoCao and Lu Bu. It took me 17 hours to complete the Lu Bu storyline only tofind out it was the “bad” character ending. It took me around 4 hours tocomplete Liu Bei. It all depends what kind of ending you would like. Iwould not recommend this game to strategy fans that want a quick and shortcampaign which will be over in 2 hours. You would need patience withthis type of game and when you are in battle the “Auto” function is agreat help. You can let the computer play out the battle for you.
Ifyou are willing to play the game for a long length of time it is greatfun. Creating armies. Selecting officers, recruiting new officers, training them, visiting the villages of your kingdom, expanding yourkingdom and getting advised on the best course of action.
The only thing about the game I was a little annoyed at was the lifespan.Once you loose a battle with your main character in there are no retries. This is a major downfall if you spend 5 hours playing then loosing on abattle only to find out you have not saved the game.
The music, graphics and storylines are compelling and interesting to watchas each of the characters destinies unfold.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Game, 28 Nov 2003
This game is a overall Strategy game, but it does have quite a bit of RPG gaming in it.
The whole point of the game is to build up your army so you can beat any on coming enemys that stand in your. You can raise your army in different ways.
The first time you play this game you will have to do a practice level with Liu Bei, but dont worry, it doesnt go on for ages with boring examples. Once you have completed the practice level you get to start the game, your given a choice of playing as either Liu Bei of Shu, Cao Cao of Wei, Sun Ce of Wu or the mighty Lu Bu. Giving you plenty of story branches and endings.
The game is easy to understand if your just starting out and its also complex at the same time if your a expert at the game.
Although Koei couldve taken this game even higher it is a really good game and will keep you enticed with its gaming features. Some of these features are:
Tactical chain combos, Spies to infiltrate enemy forces, Civilians to recruit, Structures to build during battle including the Arbalest, great FMV's and much more. This game is a must for all Startegy fans.
