Superlative Boccherini in unique guitar quintets

The Andante.com classical web site and Amazon's web sites provide meaningful venues for volunteer reviews and rebuttals to newspaper reviews of classical music. Most newspapers in the U.S. do not accept comments on articles by music critics - except where a musician associated with a reviewed performance rebuts or adds information. Since smart musicians usually shrug off bad reviews, we often get opinionated or establishmentarian treatments not pertinent to audience perspectives.

I do agree with Ruhe's enthusiasm for these quintets, but don't agree with his opening gambit that Boccherini is often dismissed as a lightweight. Neither do I agree with Ruhe's talk about delightful "decadence" in these works. They are no nore decadent than Haydn's early quartets.
