A fitting tribute, 27 May 2004
This two disc set is the soundtrack for one of the best gigs I have ever seen. I remember hearing about the Concert for George on the night it went ahead and feeling awful because I did not have (nor could I find) a ticket to go. The line up is magnificent - Eric Clapton, Jeff Lynne, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Billy Preston are among the talent on display here - and the songs (which are virtually all George Harrison penned) are extraordinary. To pick out highlights is almost impossible - but Billy Preston singing 'Isn't it a Pity', McCartney playing 'Something' on a ukele, and Joe Brown's smiling performances are standout. The first disc features the first half of the concert itself - Raavi Shankar, his talented daughter and a magnificent Indian Orchestra play some unique pieces written especially for this occasion and it is truly breathtaking - tragically perhaps we are not treated to the Monty Python songs that followed it in the concert itself (and the DVD). The second disc is why I really bought it though - I have enormous admiration for the first section of the concert, but what follows is magnificent - the stage is filled with talented musicians and thanks to the very underplayed introductions from Eric Clapton (who was responsible for the evening) there is no room for ego. This assures the real star of the evening is the man who gave the world such great music - George Harrison. Bravo to all involved.

A Magical Night, 12 Dec 2003
I'm embarrased to say that the main reason that I got this CD was because it features Jeff Lynne who's music I worship. If you look at the star line-up and the track list, it should be enough to persuade you to buy it. I've not had much experience with George or his music before but this is an absolute gem of an album. Where else would you find all these artist singing together? Under the musicl direction of Eric Clapton there is Joe Brown, Jeff Lynne, Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney and more. The magic and presence of George comes through on this CD and the DVD. The songs are just beautiful.
