5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent portable hard drive, 28 May 2004
I brought this product as a way of transferring data from home to school or anywhere for that matter!
It has the capacity equivalent to 88 floppy disks, so the capacity is huge.
I use it to back up files on my PC and transfer larger files to school and back. It is more efficient than emailing files or putting them on CD-RW by far.
All you have to do is place it in a USB port and it's ready as a mobile hard drive. It is definitely worth setting up the password protection to provide good security. If the password isn't entered, the drive isn't recognised.
It should be noted that the drive is partitioned into a 1.44Mb section and then the rest. It should also be noted the capacity is only 122Mb and not 128Mb, but that is my ONLY grumble.
It comes with a USB extension wire to avoid reaching round to that USB port on the back of the PC and also a really cool neck strap, which is cool!
It is completely compatible with USB 1.1, so if you don't have USB 2.0, don't worry. I just imagine it would be much quicker with USB 2.0
This really is plug and play, and it is so easy to use.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Nice not to use CD-RW !!!, 16 Nov 2003
By ski_uk "ski_uk" (Somewhere in England) - See all my reviews
I bought this memory key to overcome the problems with swapping data with people that have different versions of DirectCD which meant that it was impossible to write to CD-RW disks if you had formated the CD-RW with different versions of DirectCD.

The pen drive is fast, and takes up the next available drive letter (irrespecive of logical settings / partitions etc). I tested it out on Linux distributions and worked no problems, same for WindowsXP - non of which drivers were required.

However, to use on Windows98SE, I had to install a driver. The problem I encountered was that despite me installing the USB 1 driver (as I did not have USB 2 connection), the device was not recognised, on reboot Windows tried to install the driver and failed. I later found an article online (not with the device), that you should install the USB 2 driver even if you only have USB 1 on your system. Once this was done, the device was recognised no problems.

The documentation is very minimal, which is no problem in itself as it's so easy to use, but the documentation etc. is also supplied on the accompanied CD in PDF format.

You'll probably have to use the supplied USB cable as the pen drive is slightly "fat" in width and may prevent other USB devices being connected because the connections are so close together on the computer.

A very good product. Once you use this - you won't want to go back to CD-RW disks.

    4.0 out of 5 stars It's fine., 17 Nov 2003
    By A Customer
The bytestor 128MB pen is perfect for moving large files, downloaded from a fast LAN connection using your work PC (during lunchtime or after work) to your home PC that might only have a 56k modem. The only issue I have with this product is that the shape of the body covers neighbouring ports on my laptop. I have to plugout my mouse to plug the fash drive directly in to the USB port. It does come with an extension cable with a smaller connection head that resolves this problem but it means you need to carry the cable with you.
