5.0 out of 5 stars This Is The Benchmark, 28 Mar 2004
This is how a soundtrack should be composed. I had become incredibly tired of having to listen to "Music Inspired By" type soundtracks. Even soundscores never really seemed to timeline the ebb and flow of a film. This Cd avoids the Inspired By cliche, AND actually gives a good musical representation of the events on screen, in the order that they occur. From the dark, industrial beats of the Zion Battle music, to the heartbreaking, peaceful "Trinity Definately", through to the dramatic, desparate vocals on "Neodammerung", this soundtrack is just about perfect. Not everyone tends to go for this kind of music, but you cannot call yourself a Matrix fan without this CD in your collection.
Admit it - On a rainy day, you've found a long, dark, empty street, put on Neodammerung as loud as you can, in your friend's car, then spent ages running towards each other, fists clenched, and ready, to the sound of the music. No? Just me then..........

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellence, 20 Nov 2003
By G. Cotton "aqueous_null" (Lincolnshire, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I remember the first time I watched the Matrix with the Warner Bros. symbol coming up on the screen and that all familiar opening theme to the Matrix, and I sat thinking how different this music was to music I'd heard on other movies. From 1999 to 2003 all that has happened to the music of the Matrix is improvement and diversification. From The Matrix to Revolutions, the music has progressively become more creative and atmospheric and with the climax to the Matrix trilogy, the music had to be up to scratch...and it was.

The emotional baggage that the soundtrack holds is definitely what makes it a brilliant work. In none of the other Matrix films is there so much emotion as Revolutions and tracks like "Trinity Definitely" and "Spirit of the Universe" convey such emotions tremendously. "Neodaemmerung" and "Navras" are as atmospheric and epic as can be as the musical descriptions of what is both the Matrix saga and the Final Battle. In fact I remember sitting in the cinema watching that battle thinking how amazing the vocals, instruments and tune to "Neodaemmerung" were. To put it bluntly, it is definitely a track that will "psyche you up" and if you ever enter a situation where you're playing fisticuffs with an adversary in drenching rain, this is definitely the track for you....

Dark, gothic and brilliant, the Matrix takes a musical turn from computer mayhem to epic courage and sacrifice.

Buy it and enter the Matrix.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don Davis has done it again!, 5 Nov 2003
By J. Chapple "Z0r" (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Well, I knew that the Score composed by Don Davis was going to be amazing but nothing like this! I haven't seen the film yet but this Score is AMAZING! If you aren't a huge fan of Orchestral Music, I wouldn't recommend this as there are only a few tracks that aren't completely Orchestra based, however for any fans of Don Davis' work on The Matrix Trilogy this is a MUST HAVE! To name a few great tracks - Track 1 - Logos/Main Title starts off as you would expect, high strings and see-saw Horns introduce the passage (as always) but this time we hear new and exciting themes as (hence the title) I can imagine that something crazily exciting is happening with the Logos Ship (Capt. Niobe's Ship). Neodammerung is also another great track. This is the scene from the film where Neo and Smith have their "Super Brawl". This Track features an intense choral part. The whole score demands the choir a lot more. Overall, the general feel of the score feels a lot less "safe", I suppose this is due to the fact that Zion is potentially Under Attack, so the music needs to lead the audience in to the sense of insecurity (which it does well).
What more can I say?? BUY IT!
