Linksys WGA54G Wireless-G Game Adapter

Linksys WGA54G Wireless-G Game Adapter

Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

The Wireless-G Game Adapter gives any wired Ethernet-equipped game console wireless connection capabilities. The Game Adapter can be used in two different ways. If you have an existing home wireless network and a cable or DSL Internet connection, the Game Adapter lets your PlayStation2, Xbox or GameCube attach to the network so you can get into online games without running wires to the game room. Or, use a pair of Game Adapters to form a "cable-less cable" between two game consoles for head-to-head gaming--in the same room, or all the way across the house. It's completely driver-free, so it works on any platform. Since there are no drivers to load, setup is a snap. In some cases, it works right out of the box! If your setup's a little different--just configure the network settings through your PC's web browser, plug it into your game box, and go.

The Wireless-G Game Adapter provides lag-free gaming with communication speeds up to 54 Mbps when connected to other Wireless-G devices. It can also connect to Wireless-B (802.11b) devices and networks at 11 Mbps.

Spend your time gaming, not stringing wires, with the Linksys Wireless-G Game Adapter.

    5.0 out of 5 stars WGA54G, 3 Mar 2004
I'm using this wireless game adapter with a linksys WAG54G ADSL/Modem-Router and my Xbox. Simply plug it into your computer's ethernet port(but i had to disable windows personal firewall first) click setup from the main menu then all you require from the setup is to create a SSID and a Chanel number then save your settings.

It was fairly easy to set it up with my ADSL/Modem-Router too, just enter your Xbox mac address, chanel number and game adapters ip address number. Then just plug the game adapter into your Xbox and the rest should be fairly simple after that.

I give the game adapter 5stars because it was easy to setup and i've never setup a ADSL/router-network before, but mainly for performance the wireless signal has to go through two walls in my house to the router and there does'nt apear to be any lag at all.

4.0 out of 5 stars XBox live with no cables :-), 1 Feb 2004
I'm using this in conjunction with the Netgear DG834G (router/adsl modem/wireless all in one also from amazon). Worked fine pretty much straight away (after configuring it with my laptop). I use it with WEP encryption and MAC address filtering (you have to put the XBox's MAC address into the router too). Would have been 5* if it had WPA (for those of us paranoid enough to want it). Power cable could be another couple of feet too.

5.0 out of 5 stars No problems for me, bought a second one, 23 April 2005
It's two months since I bought and installed the first of these and, to be honest, I was really surprised when I just read other reviews and saw a range of negative comments.
I installed with a PS2 and true it was a total pain, but the network adapter was working immediately... it was the PS2 net registration that was poorly documented and utterly confusing. Even setting it to widescreen mode for my widescreen TV (surely standard now?) took ages to find the odd place to do the setting.
The Gaming Adapter worked so well and so easily that we then bought a second one (and a wireless router) and installed at a friend's house. From start to finish the whole installation of router to replace a usb modem and the gaming adapter and PS2 net adapter was completed and working inside 30 minutes. Compared with several hours of figuring it out the first time, it really highlighted to me how utterly rubbish the PS2 registration instructions were!
I have to give this product all 5 stars because it was easy to set up, worked instantly, and has given no problems at all. But allow time and keep a cool head when registering a PS2!

    Rob.
