Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

As Parker, a miner working in appalling conditions beneath the surface of Mars, you become caught up in a rebellion triggered by inhuman working conditions and a deadly plague. During the course of 12 levels, set across land, sea and air environments, you fight overwhelming odds in your quest to free Mars from the evil Ultor's grip.

The first 3D first-person shoot-em-up for the Nokia N-Gage game deck, Red Faction was developed by Monkeystone Software, run by Doom and Quake legend John Romero. Featuring 2-player action and levels that progress from gritty underground mines to pristine labs on Mars' surface, Red Faction mixes frenetic action with an absorbing storyline.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great handheld game!!, 9 Oct 2003
Take a look at the screens... Everything you see in them can be blown apart! You can blow through walls to create multiple routes to your goals. How cool is that. Red faction is the N-Gages first 3D shooter and is shaping up great.

The graphics in this game are amazing considering they are on a handheld and in 3D. The textures are a bit bland but what does that matter when you can blow it all up with 12 unique, selectable weapons (including a rocket launcher).

There are a few control issue. With no shoulder buttons strafing is quite hard but manageable, and the Goldeneye style handling (move and look around with the same analogue stick)is ok but not great on an 8-way d-pad.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 21 Dec 2004

This was one of the early games on the N-gage and it shows. If you want a first-person shooter for the N-gage then Ashen is a much more solid effort, with superior graphics and a smoother framerate.

1.0 out of 5 stars Just not good enough!, 6 Dec 2004
By A Customer
I was very disapponted by this game when it arrived. It's problem is that it just isn't any good. The two biggest issues with are the confusing graphics and the sloppy controls. Here's how it goes - you walk around a corner, guard sees you before you see him (because of the rubbish graphics), he shoots you, you take hits whilst fumbling around trying to get a lock on him, you eventually shoot him and then repeat all this with the next one (and the next one). N64 Goldeneye it ain't!

There are quite simply too many lacklustre games on this console and this is yet another one. Despite me owing one, I think it deserves it's fate - which is to slowly die off (as it is doing now). The wife's got me an Nintendo GBA SP for Christmas.
