"The sun doesn't rise at all...", 17 Oct 2003
Yep, Mushroomhead is back, and they are in top form. Just when you thought they couldn't outdo their last album, "XIII" proves to be their finest effort as of now. This metal-industrial band is extremely successful at putting out hard-hitting songs, as well as very melodic and haunting tunes. What's so great about these guys is that they do their absolute best to mix it up with every song; meaning that they make sure that every song has a look and feel of its own. I don't think I even came across one single song that sounded the same the others. They have heavy and intense songs; they have very melodic and soothing songs. There's some great yelling and screaming; there's some outstanding and hypnotic singing. Each song sounds fresh and unique without a single song sounding repetitive. I really enjoy every track on this album, but my favourite songs are "kill tomorrow," "nowhere to go," "sun doesn't rise," "mother machine gun," "one more day," "the war inside," "almost gone," and "our own way." All in all, I think every song is fantastic. This is one of those rare albums where you don't have to worry too much about skipping track after track to listen to the "good ones." Mushroomhead's "XIII" is an outstanding album that really stands out as one of the best to come out of 2003. It's dark, hard-hitting, intense, melodic and haunting. If you are a fan of their last album, chances are you will love this new one. For a great metal-industrial sound that has a fresh look and feel, Mushroomhead is the group for you.

Mushroomhead XIII - one of the best metal albums ever, 15 Jan 2004
Somehow they managed to do it, they have bettered their previous effort (XX). The album simply flows from one song to the next, but somehow they've managed to make each song so different and destinctive. There are songs to satisfy ever mood and taste. If you're after real thrash'n'scream metal then "The Dream Is Over" and "Eternal" are the songs for you. If you want something a lot more melodic and deep then "One More Day" is a great song. All the other songs eb and flow; speed up, then slow down. Screaming turns into excellent vocals, rapping (damn right he is good) and then back to thrash and screams again. They never over do it though, they know when to hold back and when to give a bit more. This album truly is 'polished' for want of a better word, this is where it outdoes the last album which was still very rough and 'dirty'. The vocals are yet again excellent from J Mann and Jeffery Nothing - if anyone can name a better and yet more different duo of singers I would like to know who! They are so completely different, and yet it works so well...they play off of each other and the music in such a sharp and diverse way.Think more polished, more deep, more melodic version of Mushroomhead - they've reinvented the metal genre, then turned it on its head; for a second time in as many albums. One of my favourite albums ever, shame I couldn't give it 6* it is that good! L.

pure genius, 9 Jun 2005
ok a few years ago i saw mushroomhead on a music channel being played at toys"r"us (of all places) i know now the song was 'solitare unravelling' from the xx album, after reading a few reviews about mushroomhead on amazon i decided to purchase xiii and wow i was blown away,i immediatley bought xx a few days later.mushroomhead are pure genius but of the 2 albums i personally think this one has the edge,it is pure ecstacy in a cd,perfect.j.mann and jeffery nothing are both very talented and their voices compliment each other perfectly, dont listen to any reviews about this album being naff,it rocks! they have such a unique sound, you could hear a new song song of theirs and just think 'mushroomhead' but as strange as it is all of their songs sound fresh and unique, not one is similar to another.anyway stop reading this and buy both!!!!!! you wont regret it!
