Product Description

Product Description

Offering outstanding value for money, the Yamada DVD-2500 multi-region capable DVD player supports multiple CD/DVD media formats as well as offering MP3 CD playback, JPEG picture CD support with 16 transition modes between images. Its compact size (380 x 50 x 285 mm) makes it an ideal player for where space is a premium, or for use in a bedroom environment.

As the name suggests, the Yamada DVD-2500 is capable of playing DVDs sold outside of the UK. Sold as a region 2 player, the Yamada DVD-2500 can be made multi-region with a few key presses on the remote control. To find out how to make the DVD-2500 multi-region enables, click here to read the instructions.

The DVD-2500 will keep audio fanatics entertained with its plethora of sound options. The player features a high quality 96 kHz/24-bit Audio D/A converter for superior audio reproduction of encoded discs. Add to this Dolby Digital and DTS support, coaxial digital audio output and the ability to downmix audio. For those without a home cinema setup, the DVD-2500 also includes a 3-D virtual surround sound mode through the external analogue output sockets on the back of the player.

One impressive feature is automatic television conversion of NTSC/PAL discs. Basically, what this means is that if you play an NTSC disc on a PAL only TV, you'll get a good colour picture, meaning you may not need an NTSC compatible television in order to play discs from another country. This depends on the television as some older models may not playback in colour.

Not present on this budget model is a front panel LCD display. However, this shouldn't be seen as a negative as some users are often distracted from the pale light that emanates from the front of the player when watching a film in the dark. The information normally displayed on a front panel can easily be displayed on-screen at the touch of a button.

The user manual, although quite short, is very easy to understand and gives you clear guidance on setting up the player and working through the setup screens. The full function remote control allows you to access all of the player's options/features including zoom in and out, multi-angle, volume up/down as well as all the standard DVD playback controls. Around the back of the player you'll find the usual collection of video/audio connections including composite, S-video and SCART for video while both analogue and digital coaxial outputs are present for audio playback.

Box contains

  • DVD player
  • Remote control
  • 2x AAA batteries
  • Instruction manual
  • Composite A/V cable
  • SCART CABLE NOT INCLUDED

5.0 out of 5 stars UNBEATABLE VALUE FOR MONEY, 14 Nov 2003
By K. ELLIS "kaydixon1" (Coventry) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I got my dvd player today, and its great, following the instructions I changed it to a multi region very easily.

So far it has played the following

DVD REGION 1
DVD REGION 2
SVCD
VCD
DVDR
JPEG PICTURES FROM MY PC
CDRW
CDR
MP3

GREAT LITTLE MACHINE AND WELL WORTH THE MONEY BUY ONE NOW
It does not have an LCD DISPLAY but you can't argue for the money, only one complaint when you switch on the power button there is no light, but just a small worry for an overall fantastic player. I already have 2 on order for presents!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars cheap as chips but worth it, 18 Nov 2003
Let me start by saying I only purchased this dvd player as I had lots of vcds that I was fed up of watching on my pc.
I was skeptical about spending only 30 quid on a dvd player, and was going to bid on ebay for a proper vcd player instead, but reading the reviews I thought give it a shot.
For 30 quid its ridiculously good, and has prompted me to write a review for the first time, not something I would normally bother to do.
I have tried VCDS and SVCDS on several types of CD-Rs burned at different speeds and it plays them all. It also has worked fine with several types of dvdr+ and dvdr-. After doing the multi region hack I have tested it with dvd region 0,1,2 and 4, and all worked perfectly. The remote is not flimsy as per other reviews, the machine is light but doesnt feel too fragile, tho the whirring noise when it stops sounds a bit funny but am sure I get used to it. In fact the only criticism I have of this player is that when its switched to standby the red light that is on the power button is far too bright, I put my hand quite a distance away and it still glowed on it, it was almost like an optical mouse brightness.
I have to say I have not yet tried it with any CD-RW or DVD-RW or jpeg cds/dvds or mp3 cds/dvds but as these are not the primary purpose I bought the machine for, if they work it will be a bonus. As it stands I would like to give this machine 4.5 stars but I cant so will just give it 5 and try not to stare at the red led too hard :-)

1.0 out of 5 stars Player has apparent design problems, 3 Mar 2004
By A Customer
Like others reporting here, I have already had to return one player back to Amazon, who have replaced it without any quibble.

The replacement behaved exactly as before.
The problem is that the player sticks and "stutters" on chapter marks on a whole range of DVD's and refuses to play "Pirates of the ..." and "Finding Nemo" which play OK on other players.
The remote control is very un-responsive, takes a number of button presses before the player responds.

Support from the distributor, Umax, is rubbish. Fair play to the German support site, they did respond within 1 working day, but not much help. Basically said get in touch with UK site.
I’ve been waiting for a response from the Umax UK site for over week. If you want to see how not to do Customer Support, give the UK site a phone call, sigh.

support@umax.co.uk - haven’t bothered to reply
support@umax.de - just refer you back to support@umax.co.uk

I am still trying to pursue UMax for a response, it this fails I will try to get hold of someone via the Yamada Taiwan corporate HQ.

Have a look around the Internet for an increasing number of problems being reported by the latest version of the Yamada 2500, seems only the latest release is affected, the earlier release has received great reports.

I am hoping that can get some satisfaction out of UMax / Yamada as the player would be great value-for money if it were not plagued with problems.

If this fails, I will be forced to return the player back to Amazon for a refund as it is most definitely not-of-merchantable quality, but the problem isn't with Amazon but the player’s design.
