    (REAL NAME)
For me, Finale is almost a musical instrument in itself. It allows me to compose in such an organic way that I see it as a conduit to hearing my music performed by live musicians. I've been using it for several versions now, and the 2004 edition has numerous features that I already have come to rely on.

I am fortunate enough to be able play the piano to a reasonable standard, so I choose to enter notes using a MIDI keyboard whenever practical. When away from my keyboard (usually on my laptop) I enter notes using keystrokes, which is also extremely fast. I could also simply click notes onto the staves, but that way is a little slow for me.

Once I have my piece ready I can automatically print my score, along with parts for every band member in the correct key for their instrument. Such a time saver. I remember having to do all this by hand. A colleague of mine was bemoaning the fact that these taditional, manual skills will die out if computers can do all of this automatically. I reminded him that we used to wash our clothes by beating them against rocks, and we don't miss that chore much!

Finale's print-outs are so attractive, it really fills one with a sense of pride when your finished scores look so professional.

What initaialy drew me Finale was the price (a fraction of the cost of the other notation systems) but now I know that I use the best notation software I can buy. Finale lets me compose and arrange more than I ever did before, and makes my music sit on the page as if it was a page from a book. If I'm really out to impress, I'll print the music onto 'parchment' style inkjet paper which looks magnificent.

I'd be lost without Finale now. If you compose or arrange music you must try Finale for your self. I'm sure you'll love it as much as I do.
