5.0 out of 5 stars A great thoughtful movie, 5 Sep 2005

(REAL NAME)
I really enjoyed this film, beware tho if your expecting full on action blaster you may need to look elsewhere, the film although having some great action scenes focuses more on the main character and the empty life she leads possibly due to her involvement with Avalon the game. If your a fan of open ended films which leave you asking questions then you will enjoy this.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic artistry, loses it mid-way, 4 Aug 2004
I had to remove large chunks of shag-pile rug from my lips after the first 15 or so minutes of watching this film, such was the extent of my, um, draw-droppingness?!

Mamoru Oshii directed the ground-breaking animated Ghost in the Shell and, this time, has turned his hand to producing I guess what you would call a real film. As in with actors.

So back to the whole draw dropping thing. What I couldn't believe was how Oshii managed to capture the pace and movement of an anime through a 35mm camera. Sometimes you are watching Avalon and you cannot really figure out what is drawn and what is real.

Having said that, after about an hour I started get a bit bored...

If you enjoy Anime for it's artistry - give this a go. If you are after action, blood and guts - rather watch Akira and Ninja Scroll.

4.0 out of 5 stars I left my love in Avalon, 10 May 2006

(TOP 50 REVIEWER)
It is the dismal looking future and one thing that is forbidden but to intriguing to resist is the virtual reality game of "Avalon" it may prove to be fatal. Ash (Malgorzata Foremniak) an independent player was once a member of a team. Some one chickened out and called a reset. Now xxx who we assume is the culprit must get to the "A" level to free the old team leader Murphy (Jerzy Gudejko) from a vegetative existence.

Naturally nothing is what it seems in this perilous adventure. And reality is what we chose it to be.

Beautiful Music by the Warsaw Philharmonic.
Bishop is played by Dariusz Biskupski. 'Biskup' is Polish for bishop.
